It’s a shame that PC Rathband went down in a lot of people’s estimation in the months following the shooting and leading up to his eventual suicide, this is another sad example whereby the split with his loyal wife Kathy was played out publicly on Twitter:

I see that David Rathband, the PC unceremoniously shot in the face by Raoul Moat in July 2010 has sadly committed suicide

Sorry to re-visit this thread some two years down the line but I was just wondering whether opinions have since changed towards Raoul Moat and PC David Rathband. Rathband appeared to have it in for Moat from day one didn't he and sadly paid for it with his life, sometimes it's best to just live and let live isn't it, even in Policing circles, as you never know these days when something or someone is going to come back to bite you.

An interesting article comparing the Paris manhunt over the last couple of days with the search for Raoul Moat following the shooting of PC Rathband in July 2010. As was the case with Moat the Paris killers, Said and Cherif Kouachi, fled the city where they committed their heinous crime and into surrounding dense countryside giving the Police a needle in a haystack to find:

Why do you suppose it was that Raoul Moat became a cult figure following his crime spree in July 2010 and the shooting of PC Rathband, I think what epitomised this most of all was when Gazza turned up in Rothbury, Northumberland, where Moat sadly met his fate, with a fishing rod, lager and some chicken, that said it all didn't it:

It's strange isn't it that PC Rathband had an affair with 7/7 survivor Lisa French who miraculously escaped the Tavistock Square bus blast in 2005, they met on Twitter which led to the sordid affair and subsequent break up of Rathband's twenty year marriage devastating his wife and two children:

At least PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation, that was set up in October 2010, is still going strong although, surprisingly, it has only managed to raise £400,000 so far in nearly five years, it doesn't seem a huge amount does it:
