Friday 24th February - Guildford City vs Ash United

It's Friday night football at the Spectrum this weekend as the title race continues. Guildford City host local rivals Ash United, who have hit an excellent run of form, in what promises to be an entertaining evening.

The match, dubbed the 'Hog's Back derby', always holds big local interest and the club is hopeful of attracting a bumper crowd. Plus the club's usual offer of half-price entry to season ticket holders of any other football club will be in effect.

Regular forumites will be pleased to know that the new NICE GUY stand, complete with built-in telescope, has been finished and approved by the FA!

Interesting. I presume the goalkeeping clinic that happens on a Friday night from 5.15 to 6.30 will still be going ahead ?

Afraid not - I'm told this has been moved to another date.

Cheers Sweeney :)

A Great night was had by the 172 paying spectators,on a warm and pleasant evening at the Spectrum. Both sides played their part in a very entertaining game that Guildford won 4-1.Goals from Hughes 2,Gacheru,Moody,secured the points for Table topping Guildford. My thanks go out to Spencer14 for the door to door Taxi service that he provided, much appreciated. To the Guildford folk for their very warm welcome they gave me,a special mention for Jakesfanclub who was a star. But the highlight of the night started at the Turnstile, when a young lady introduced herself as the Mother of the Assistant Referee,a name for the future 17 yr old Michael Smith. She was of course given free entry to the ground by the gateman.During our conversation it was disclosed that he had been to Guernsey to Officiate on the line. What a great experience for one so young,WELL DONE C.C.L.for having faith in one so young,my thanks also to Anthony Hall for getting the young lady a programme from the dressing room,as the ones for sale, had sold out.The referee had an excellent game, faultless up until a very bad tackle by the Ash no.4 from behind was not deemed A Red Card only a yellow, yet the THE BEST LEFT BACK IN THE LEAGUE,Will Heavey received a Yellow for his intervention in a The melee that ensued, when many others from both sides could of been booked. On tonights performance,I SAW THE CHAMPIONS TONIGHT!!!!!!

Never say never, and its not over until the fat lady sings, but well thats about that then.................champions elect Guildford City........again ! Hard to see it going otherwise...........

So now concentrate on the more exciting part of the league, the basement ! Hard to see Mole Valley getting out of trouble so it could be any 2 from 16th Colliers Wood downwards who are all in the mix in my opinion which makes it exciting stuff.......... so today its either a visit to Colliers Wood play Banstead OR go to Farnham play Chess & Hook..........other than these 2 the other games are really meaningless bar Windsors game against Croydon, where they need to get 3 points so the pressure is firmly on Windsor as they cannot afford to draw or lose.
