i'll simply console myself with the old cliche that you learn more in defeat-and whilst i guess CK and Jl knew that we still had quite a long way to go to be top 5 material-this will have highlighted the shortcomings even more.

Yes-as CK says in his post match interview -we need a striker-but i still maintain that more importantly-its the lack of that central midfield player linking defence and attack that is the real issue

??? That's what Mark Corneille does with Richard Avery the more defensive of the central midfield pairing. We had plenty of the ball until the final third but lacked the guile / penetration movement to turn opportunities in and around the box into good chances; the stuff that Kwesi was doing. The priority is without doubt a goal scorer.

Again-as CK says-we need to develop a slightly different style of play-and that takes time.

Fortunately-we have a bit of ime-as for me-its all about next season.

In the interim-do we need to play brutal and ugly.

Realistically-at this level, unless you have a very rare flower like a Kwesi-most opportunities will come from set pieces.

We have the players to convert those-so as a short term measure, make the most of set pieces-play the percentages

Does that mean WW should play as his delivery is the best-plus with WW he can virtually guarantee a goal every 3 games from a free kick (latest kneee injury notwithstanding )

Fortunately-no panic and a bit of an opportunity to experiment-as its next seasons league title push that counts

Typical game at this level. We had as much possession as them first half but gave away two poor goals before half-time (first, ball wasn't cleared properly; second, their man got behind our defence too easily). And that was that really. Maybe if Bradbrook had taken a headed chance just before the interval that would have given us a bit more belief for a fightback, but it was not to be. We are playing in front of teams now, there is no real incision.

and reading tonights twitter feed-it seems that WW nearly scored from a free kick within 5 minutes of coming on.

Surely if we are short term at least struggling to score from open play-it makes sense to make the most of set piece situations-and Wayne is surely the man to capitalise on that-plus he has as much midfield creativity as most.

I'm not advocating WW as the best thing since sliced bread-but just being practical and adopting to the situation
