Beds Senior Trophy Semi Final.

Caldecote 2-5 Ampthill Town

Had all the hallmarks of a nightmare, in more ways than one.

A 28 mile journey home would have most thinking the same mileage there.....punched the postcode in and came up 43 miles, only to find no players, no goals, no sign of life.

Then get sent a new postcode some 22 miles away, ffs.

Get there, a pitch that honestly resembled a junior pitch it was that small, playing against a strong wind first half and on conclusion of that period 2-0 down, in truth we were awful.

Second half think they locked the wind away, so no advantage, but whether it was stern words from CB or the fact we'd done ourselves no justice the second period was a total contrast, literally battered them, hit the woodwork twice, keeper pulled off 3 good saves but we were back on track at 2-2.

Extra time was a stroll, 3 goals and they were dead on their feet, will say would like to see any SSML side against some of the conditions and the pitch size fair better, really was back to the wall stuff.

But it's a Final to look forward to, and Semi Final number 2 to look forward to this Tuesday away at Biggleswade Town in the North Beds Charity Cup.

Me....I'm totally fvcked, wet, cold, sore throat, but well happy

ROF: What do you think of Beds County League teams playing in this "Senior" competition. Over the past few seasons we have be drawn away against those teams and find the grounds very limited.

well done mate, we got dicked there last year !!! good luck tuesday hope you win. I think a Cranfield v Ampthill final would be the best result for the cup as i think a good crowd and win lose or draw we will all enjoy.

LOL Pat, think after our 0-0 a Final between us two was mentioned, gonna be tough and guess a lot depends on what side BTFC put out, but know CB will have the boys give it their best shot.

And ffs, you lot scoring goals for fun, 6-1 midweek, 9-1 today, George Graham would hate watching your lot.

OD's....truth is didn't rate Caldecote much to be honest, the wind first period without doubt helped them as did the small pitch, their fitness wasn't 90 minutes standard, let alone 120.

Had the game been on a normal sized SSML pitch we'd have won comfortably within the 90 minutes, but that's the beauty I guess of Cup competitions, it always gives the underdog a chance.

Nice bunch though

Mate if we could defend GG would love us and maybe we would be doing better in the league lol. But we have come a long long way this season. Hopefully Cranfield now have some respect, truthfully Kentish are poor side but likeable and we, like a lot wish them well. now langford mid week was our best performance of the season so maybe we have found our form again. Hoddesdon saturday will be a test. will be over Tuesday. c u then.

Yeah agree Pat, Kentish are a sound bunch and do wish them well.

Guess in football it's about winning, no one likes losing, you've won more to date than you've lost and you've a Cup Final....mate not everyone can have that on their cv so well done to you and Lee, if you've enjoyed your season to date then that's what matters.....ok see you Tuesday, just hope I don't endure another round the world trip finding the fvcking place

In fairness to Caldcote though, ok small pitch, but nice surroundings, nice people, no entry fee which would appeal to Rhodes, decent clubhouse with Sky Sports and, only £2.50 for Stella or Fosters.....yeah definately a decent club

Ref Off Ref: Totally agree, the teams struggle with fitness and we have found their hospitality very good, its just playing on park pitches. Do not blame the clubs, as many of them did not want their league to go step 7.

Totally agree, the teams struggle with fitness and we have found their hospitality very good as many use a local pub, its just playing on park pitches. Do not blame the clubs, as many of them did not want their league to go step 7.We played Blunham last season, no dug outs, tech area and pitch not roped off. Our manager was abused by their supporters who were all beered up. Even many of their players had a smoke at half time on the pitch and they won the Premier Division !!!!. Your right Sunday morning football.

2-3 Broxbourne Borough V&E v Harefield United

A report on this one from another Forum:

SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

BROXBOURNE BOROUGH 2 HAREFIELD UNITED 3

Attendance-43 (Zulu h/c) Admission-£3 (wrinklies) plus £2 programme

the best laid plans of hoppers etc......... our first choice of Haverhill bit the dust at 1.45pm after remaining stationary on the A1 for around 45 minutes trying to get to the A428 at St Neots. We decided to keep on the A1 and head towards the Home Counties. Broxbourne Borough gave us the nod and we pulled into their carpark at 2.35pm. The game itself was a good one with the visitors going into a 3-0 lead after half an hour; the home side pulled 2 goals back before half-time but were unable to draw level in an entertaining second half. The ground is very much work in progress with an excellent 200 seater main stand on the far side with cover on the near side behind the goal and around the corner of the other side. Special mention must be made of the excellent 48 page programme on offer. No alcohol passed our lips before the customary Home Counties pitstop at the White Horse in Hedgerley.
