Weather on the Hill ! 14th Feb 2010

Having spent about an hour at Holloway's park this morning, having to check the game for the

youth which should have been played tonight (14th Feb)

Looking at the pitch , which resembles more of an Ice Hockey ring ! this morning..

The pitch is still 3/4 covered by Snow .upto 3 inches in places where the sun has not been able to

get too... and where it has melted is has formed some areas of ICE ! The ground is still frozen and

the water had no where to go ...

Temp at noon today was 2c ..not exactly the 8c promised ! at this rate the Game on Saturday

might be in doubt too !

We will need some extra warm days to dissipate the frozen ground and let the water drain off the pitch !

As for Mr St Neots asking for volunteers ... no good really at the moment .. time will tell if we need to look at this on Friday... until then ...hope we get some good warm drying weather !

Cheers Chris

Thanks for the mention but the reason the St Neots cup game is on tonight is because the club asked for assistance organised by Dennis Greene (manager) clearing the snow from the pitch on Sunday which removed the snow and exposed the ice which then thawed and the melt water has now soaked away but Holloways Park is probably beyond help now.

I hope that's the last of the cold weather.

Chris, why wait until Friday to see if the pitch is going to be fit for Saturday?

Why not look at the pitch on Wed/Thursday, this would give us time to organise, if possible, a work party to get any neccessary work done on the pitch to get the game on?

The weather is predicted to be quite good between now and Saturday so, if it's as bad as you say, perhaps just a bit of effort would get the game on.

Or does nobody else consider getting the game on as important as I do?

BTW has anybody spoken to the BSYCOB groundsmen to see what work they intend to do on the pitch this week?

You never know they might even get their arses in gear and partially justify the money they get from us being their tenants.

Chesham's game called off. tonight (14Feb) due to snow and ice on the pitch !

and they have a fantastic pitch ... too...

From the Chesham forum 'at 3.20 today there is still some standing water on the pitch but a local Referee has passed it fit to play providing the standing water is removed'

No mention of snow and ice.

There must be a way of trying to get the game on given the large fan base we have.if something was organised tonight or Friday I could try and make it over provided someone could drop me at Slough station afterward.

Seeing as temperatures as not meant to drop below freezingbefore the game we must have a reasonable chance of clearing the snow?

Edd .. Standing Water .. ? thats because the ground underneath is frozen = ICE ! plus they had snow on the terracing too !

My mate told me ! who had spoke with someone at the ground ...

BTW The game was postponed ! not passed fit to play by the match Ref !

As for the game on Saturday ... fingers crossed nature will do its thing !

Mark Hunter will be checking the pitch tonight 15Feb . most of the snow has melted but lots of standing water ! still frozen underneath ... up date later tomorrow 16Feb

cheers chris s

That's good news Chris s.

With the snow gone and 3 days of mild temperatures to de-frost the frozen ground things seem to be looking brighter.

Well done to Mark for taking the time and trouble to go to the ground.

We have 7 games in March. Avoiding any further fixture pile-up could be crucial.
