A Plan to save Non League Football

ellers

Duncs you have to go careful sweeping snow off 3g because of the protection the rubber brings. I think that it is something that is clearly being looked at and I would suggest a non league side at Step 5 will be supported if they went ahead with it. Also I think you can play FA Cup matches on it providing it meets certain standards.

it costs a small fortune to maintain pitches as it is and then clubs lose money for all of these postponements I bet theres nothing in it when it comes to real term costs and will probably work out cheaper in the long run, what are you all so worried about it will mean we can have football every day of the week and not have to worrie if a game is on or not, this country is full of people who let our whole way of life be affected by 2 inches of snow its a fecking joke.

There speaks someione who hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. It costs half a million pounds to install a 3G/4G pitch, £15000 a year to maintain and a quarter of a million to have it relaid ten years down the line. How can that work out cheaper than having a few games a year postponed at this level? It may make a difference at the top level where a postponed game can cost the club tens of thousands but at our level it's not cost effective. If it was they'd be everywhere by now.

Indeed you are right Smudge but strange you can play international matches on them. I would imagine if more artificial pitches are played on then the rules will change.

Also interesting to know that the 2 London clubs tours I have been on, I have been told that they use a mixture of grass and synthetic fibres. So we are on the way anyway :)

Plain bonkers. Artificial surfaces are fully acceptable for Champions League finals and International matches but not below Step 2 and certainly not for FA Cup ties. The surfaces are so far removed from those seen in the 1980s at Luton, QPR, Oldham and Preston. The Luton one was rock hard when I played on it. No give whatsoever. I would love to try out one of the new ones but I would only embarrass myself.

Of course lest we forget, Feltham had an artificial pitch until they left the Arena. I guess it was the old 'Luton/QPR' sort though. Only went on the 2 occasions Wimbledon played there and it looked in quite poor condition. What did players around at that time make of it?

Blimey VP I bow down to your superior Knowledge you've obviously looked at how much a 3g would cost but my main point is that they are far more likely to insure football teams get to play football and not be worried what the weather is gonna do,the burden of cost however would probably be funded as Hampshire council are doing for Cove,IMO its the future so don't get so personal clubs will no doubt at some stage have to have these pitches in order to get graded or is that to hard for you to imagine.

Played at Feltham a few times and it was like old kitchen carpet... rubbish... We now train on a 4g pitch every Thursday and it is like playing at Wembley... Fantastic... Did get a bit slippy tho on Thusday nite when the snow came down and to be honest it was frozen hard on Sat as we were gonna train on it so I am not sure it would solve the problem.

Perhaps if we all played on 3/4 G we would actually bring players up who can play football rather than hoof ball that they have to play on the facilities currently on offer around the country

I know at least one club that has been knocked back by a short sighted council and a bunch of NIMBYS that the council were scared off in case they lost their little old seats.

And yes that includes at least one present CCL chariman.

Have you ever been on a 3g its unbelievable how close to real glass it is and all this Bollix about attracting players will even itself out if the pitches are all alike whats wrong with having a level playing field who wants to kick up the slope or down the slope its sh1te and you all know it...bite.

Ouch!

sorry SF but I think we should all be supporting this it looks like in the not to distant future that clubs with these pitches will have a ditinct advantage and if it meens clearing a bit of snow off of a pitch to get a game on I would do it on my own

The terrace's and entrances to the stadiums also need to be made safe.
