You forgot the Jasnikowski brothers! Jon Hind was pretty good too.

On a similar theme over the years( more earlier than late )we have been blessed with some truly great non-league players, but IMO the two players who would fit into any Slough team ( or any other team for that matter ) are Terry Reardon and Steve Thompson.

On a side note its little known that John Delaney ( great centre back )started life as a goalie for QPR.

My worst 11 would have to be:

Sean Lahiff

Ricky Browne

Russell Edwards

Yiadom Yeboah

Kenny Sansom (although a legend, past it for us)

Mark Quamina

Dave Rainford

Byron Walton

Colin Fielder

Morrys Scott

Andrew Deaner

Don't agree with some of them,Cookham Rebel but definitely agree about Sean Lahiff and the incredibly overrated and overpriced Colin Fielder. My worst team would read.........

Sean Lahiff

Paul McKay

Mark Avery

Nick Gyoury

Stuart Hemsley

Steve Black [ a classic Steve Browne signing! ]

Bobby Dell

Colin Fielder

Mark Turkington

Simon Bochenski

Deji Davies

Subs; Chuck Moussadik,Robert Smith,Scott Webb,Paul Manning,Tommy Hayes.

Paul Coombs nearly made it for being crap at Slough, when he had been prolific at Basingstoke. The Slough striker hoodoo!

Terry Reardon,as legend suggests, must have been some player then !

I'ts true us older supporters would have a larger database of memories to pick from and if you accept the fact that so called amatuer plays of the 60's & 70's were in most cases good enough to play pro football, I would offer the fact that other than Steve Thompson no Slough players of the last 20 years would get into any best team.

So my best is as follows:

Richard Teale

Ian Reid - John Delaney - Eric Young- Ray Eaton

Roger Day- Steve Thompson- Terry Reardon- Les Barrett

David Kemp-Gary Abbot.

Between 1965 and 1980 you could pick many different sides because we were blessd with some really good players-when you think I have left out Jeff Bateman and John Richards, Kieth Mead etc.etc.

Hotspur,I accept your notion of players being better years ago, mainly because you had a bigger pool to choose from, given the fact that football was, by far a more popular pastime than it is now. So I would expect a lot of natural talented players were around then. However, today's non-league footballers are probably fitter than in the past. So,of course,it is hard to speculate who is better. It's like trying to compare Johnny Haynes with Glenn Hoddle. The games and tactics and level of fitness and diets were/are, a million miles away from each other.

Most fans know the best ones when they see them first hand in action, regardless.

Perineau Daley turned up and sat on the bench at a time when we had no budget. He wasn't very good, but he turned up every week and played to his best, even if that was not to any sort of standard. In his own crap way, he did Serve With Honour. Jarvis on the other hand.......

Perception is everything I suppose. I certainly think it harsh to put Avery and Gyoury in a worst XI ahead of Ricky Browne.

From my recent watching in comparison (20 yrs) I would have to suggest mark foran Ian hazel and mark fiore deserve to be in that bracket

Three outstanding players,DJD. Mark Fiore was superb in his first two seasons at Slough.

I think what Hotspur is saying,is that Terry Reardon and Steve Thompson were just a bit special.

Thommo,in my mind,is the best attacking, skilful player in Non League football I've seen, with the exception of Stan Collymore.

Managers make or break players but some players are just not up to it.

I understand your point about Avery and Gyoury.

I dare say I could trawl through a thousand Slough sides and find quite a few worst players especially in the team that nearly took us down 4 seasons ago to our lowest level ever, but I thought the managers were as inept as the players, in that unfortunate circumstance.. I must admit to being not a big Steve Daly fan but know that he had the capacity to raise his game against the better teams. For me,Avery and Gyoury did not. Thought Nick Gyoury was overrated. Mark Avery willing enough but just not very good.Suits Marlow, though.

Thought Ricky Browne started his spell at Slough well until Steve Browne managerial wizardry made Ricky become poor! lol!

I'm not sure Nick Gyoury was ever rated.

Those players played at a higher level years ago, todays team only plays at a low level.

Good to see that Frank Parsons is being mentioned in this thread. He made a vital contribution to the F A Cup victory over Millwall and must have been one of the hardest goalkeepers ever. I was lucky enough to work with someone who had enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a centre half in top non-league football. He told me that he had once had his cheekbone or jaw broken by Frank at a corner-and they were both on the same side.
