When at school many moons ago,the importance of Reading and Writing and Arithmetic was instilled into every young pupil. The importance being that without these skills, finding a job would be very difficult!!!But in the current World we live in is it really that important,Reality T.V.,Glamour Models, even a Football Manager who openly admits, not ever writing a Letter. But even in C.C.L.requests are made for C.V.s,be it written or by E.Mail, hang on the said Manager, does not know how to use a Computer. So how is he going to apply. This takes me on to another point in life,it's not what you know, but who you know.

I am convinced education standards are falling whatever exam results say.

I get sick and tired of people saying "should of" not "should have" or any other number of incorrect pieces of English.

Kids can't do simple maths theses day. When I was 8 I knew all the times tables and not just through rote learning. Try to get a 10 yo to recite one is impossible.

My eldest is 12. She lost her phone, use of a pc and her Nintendo because of poor behaviour. Bored one afternoon she said "I don't know what to do, I'm bored". I suggested she read a book (like we used to in the days before computer games and phones) and the look I got was unbelievable.

And as for "innit"....

And yes, it is who you know, not what you know.

always has been jertzee.

My eldest loves reading a book and writing stories

My youngest is superb at Maths and at 10 I can throw him any 2 numbers to multiply and he will be able to do it within seconds.

Do you think when we were young the same conversation was happening. I bet it was.

But isn't that the whole point of this thread? The inability of people to understand the basics of life? Silly me. Such a shame that whenever anyone associated with Windsor FC responds to a thread or statement which someone else does not like, reference is always made to the demise of Windsor & Eton FC.

I look forward to welcoming you to Stag Meadow on the 24th February.

I genuinely feel so sorry for the kids of today that don't read.

ALL my Grand-Kids adore reading. Not only is it educational, but it improves their use of English grammer, dunnit ? Yeah ?

Youngest GD at 16 reads on average 3 books a week !!.
