Also NG I wouldnt lump Spain and Barcelona in on the same convo. I watch Spain and their build up a lot of the time is slow. Barcelona is quick and incisive. Spain want teams to come at them but Barcelona dont so there is another fundamental difference.

 

I have watched Spain live and it is enjoyable but not as enjoyable as you make out. Barcelona are different.

I think the main difference between Spain and Barcelona is that Spain are tighter defensively. Barcelona can be got at because they have so much confidence in their passing and attacking abilities. All I can add is thank goodness Messi is Argentinian and not Spanish.

As NG is fond of saying here when anyone criticises his opinions (frequently) it is my opinion. I happen to find them boring and that is that. I'm also intrigued to see what happens when they go behind as I think that chasing a game is more difficult or them. As an aside Barcelona have drawn six matches this year against Spanish sides so far this year, and that's with Messi in there too.

 

I just don't think it would work as well here. The tempo of the game is slower than we see here and many typical British crowds would not put up with it especially if that happened when their team was behind. I have visited over 440 different football grounds in this country and it's not all pass and move, purist football. Certainly not in Hereford on a Friday night I can confirm from recent experience.

 

I'm not saying its right, it's just the British mentality, and yes, maybe it is why we've not won anything in a while. Maybe it does need to change, but I prefer us to use our strengths instead of trying to adapt to others.

 

If you don't like that NG, then I refer you to my opening sentence.

Well of course its not ALL pass and move purist football what a stupid statement. The style of play is down to the management coaching etc., there are managers who prefer the lump football ask a few Ryman managers! Team/players who have the ability to play and be coached, can play the pass and move style, some players don't have the skill and coaches don't know how to teach this style, everyone to their own.

 

Its not often Spain are behind in games. Come on Ed you must know that Internationals are slower than club games and as for club games, its upto both teams what they make of the game, Continental games are more tactical and technical,

 

Everyone to their own if you enjoy lump football thats down to you, you obviously like neck aches.

The mistake English clubs and the National team make is that they try and take on foreign opposition at their own game. We end up trying to make a slik purse out fo a sow's ear. The English game is about running around a lot, putting in gallons of effort and with the minimum of style and finesse. Which teams currently try and play a more continental style of possession football? Swansea and Arsenal. With the rest it is basically all grunt! Now, if this grunt was applied to the national team and we played to OUR strengths instead of the opposition's, who knows what the outcome would be? Probably explains why the players at International level rarely reproduce their club form.
