Sorry to hijack the thread but Guildford Sweeney's post needs a response............

The FA rules on this are a disgrace. I seem to remember Windsor trying to put a huge amount of distance between themselves and the 'old club' (of course they play at the same ground, most of the players are the same, same colours etc. but that is by the by). However when it comes to the league allocation, they are more than happy to be the 'reincarnation' of Windsor & Eton, therefore bypassing a few seasons in the process. I know this isn't Windsor's fault, but it shows a glaring unfairness in the FA rules that two clubs formed at exactly the same time could have to start their lives at completely different levels.

This was not our choice but was an instruction from the FA that we were a 'new' club and could have no reference to Windsor & Eton. We play at the same ground as it was available and the landlords were willing to grant a lease but they could quite easily have let it to Slough, Maidenhead, etc, it's a business transaction which suits them as the ground can only be used for football or revert to grazing. The colours are the Town colours so a fairly obvious choice and we only have 2 players left from when the club went under, most of the players are from 2 or 3 seasons ago. In all honesty we were just as surprised at the FA ruling as [a] we expected to be playing Hellenic football and were very aware that we would probably start at step 6. Two things had a bearing I think on the FA's placing at step 5 one of which was the unusual circumstances in the previous clubs' demise whereby a rescue package was on the table but blocked by one man who didn't want the club to exist any more and the fact you have a facility with a 'C' grade which would have looked out of place at Step 6.

The FA rules are so poorly written that it's probably not going to be long until a decent lawyer makes mincemeat of them.

A question we asked ourselves as it became apparent we couldn't save the club due to the FA and company rules/laws as we were at one stage prepared to challenge said rules. The very simple answer to the question is one that no lawyer on earth can get around and it is that when a club signs and submits Form A every year it agrees to abide by the rules/laws set by the FA without question or recourse to any other actions. In that sentence alone you negate your right to challenge in any way but if you don't sign the form you don't play football at any level - simple really but they've got it tied up in law !

As I said at the start apologies for going off course on this thread but I keep seeing innaccurate reports of what happened with the old club and the rules regarding the new club. As I've said it was an unusual situation whereby whatever happened the club was going to go under because one man covered every possible avenue of saving the club for the town and its' supporters and put a stop to any possible rescue packages ! If we were guilty of anything at all it was naivety in allowing one person to become judge, jury and executioner in the way he set himself up as complete owner of the old club [and limited company] but you don't know how bad things are until you have to face that situation.- something I wouldn't wish on another club and 118 years of proud history wiped out just like that !

Attended the meeting tonight, which I must say was not very well attended.I can see a problem though, the current owner of Croydon Athletic has not liquidated the Club, and no creditor has filed for Bankruptcy of the Club. One of the creditors is the local Authority, who were owed money on the lease, they have taken proceedings out against the leaseholder for possession of the ground, which is currently locked. How long this procedure could take is anyones guess, grass grows quick in spring time.An interim Committee was chosen to set up a constitution, and Limited Company.Members of the Club would be asked for a joining fee of £25.Many dual Rams/Palace Fans present favoured the name as A.F.C.Croydon Athletic, just hope they find a new brand name.Wish them well in their endeavours, but feel it will be a struggle to get it up and running financially.A figure of £800 per week was the lease Croydon Athletic had to pay to the Council, when Welling Utd hire Croydon Arena for £200 per game.Helping locals I think not. There was also one of the great and good at the Meeting, promising to get the ear of Boris, election time just round the corner I fear.Would of been nice if he had chucked in £100 to get the ball rolling, alas he never.

I know this is off topic (your fault smudge!) and maybe it should have its own thread, but I would have thought that the situation is easy to solve here.

Croydon FC have a team. Croydon Athletic have a decent ground. Ok there may be issues about who actually owns things right now but if both are actually council owned, then bearing in mind that a City the size of Croydon really should have a big team of its own (and I don't mean Palace, they are a South London club) then why not a merger?

There can't be much history or bad blood between the teams that would prevent such an option being considered, and I've even got a name for you. Croydon United.

I'm sure it's not quite as simple as I've suggested but I'm surprised no one has raised it. There are too many teams around in the south east and this appears a natural progression. It would mean that Croydon Athletic would gain the stability and organisation from the Croydon FC officials and Croydon FC could get out of the Arena which is an awful place to watch football.

If "Croydon United" could convince the FA on this, I'm sure they could allow them to start at Step 5 seeing as you could argue it was like Croydon FC just having a change of name. Then a big town with plenty of history could get back up towards being a big club again.

Sorry to hijack the thread back to the original subject.

Groundsman at Molesey text me just before noon to say the pitch is playable.it is sunny and bright now and the forecast is showing as -2 at around 9pm, so on that basis I would assume the game will go ahead.

Although snow is clearing, there are some very cold nights coming for the rest of this week and some day temperatures not getting above 0!

Hopefully it won't be too bad for the weekend and everyone can get going again as I'm looking to go up against the 'newly behaved' South Kilburn :)
