Who is up for it ?

A personal thing - as Wogan used to ask - "Is it me ?". I've been coming now as often as possible for 5-6 years and every game this year as have a season ticket and am now a local resident and there's a couple of things that seem very apparent to me. One is no one ever goes to the back of the box at corners and free kicks and the ball inevitably ends up there. The other is possibly a bit nerdy but I've been analysing how often it comes out from opposition defending to the edge of the box and just over - I call that space the Paul Scholes position as he seems to score or assist greatly from there. You can really notice it on televised games if you look out when the next one is on. It strikes me that Wayne Wilson or more likely Dan Stubbs would be ideal players to take advantage of that and I'd like to see them try it.................. Any hope ?

surely they are 3 different type of players/options. since early december be hard to drop anybody but tuesday was crying out for someone creative.Without Kwasi making runs we resulted to simply humping the ball up field

Weren't we just humping upfield which suited Kwesi's strengths before?

We were using the long ball tactic occasionally but kwesi used to stick to the wings and make runs inside! With the midfield playing well despite one loss Tom Bradbrook can be ideal up top with both wingers playing well recently as well, kwesi is a loss but now we have to start playing intellegent football to create chances for the forwards, remember kwesi scored 3-4 goals against weak sides and single goals against lewes and Charlton meaning it was the whole team that performed well.

I'm curious to know what people mean by creative. A long ball humped up to a striker can be just as creative as lots of tippy-tappy stuff in the middle of the park. I think we miss WW's set pieces (the corners on Tuesday were poor) but football at this level is decided in the boxes not the middle of the park.

Long balls to front men can be effective, but they have got to recieve and control otherwise the defenders just win the ball and without our mid field the defence is put back under immediate pressure, so I think we need a better central player than we have at the moment, and of course a new forward. I'm sure both will arrive in time.

A young Jay Saunders would fit the bill, someone who can get stuck in and play. Problem is at this level most players are technically limited and give the ball away under pressure so any fans hoping for tiki-taka are going to be disappointed.

I like chicken taka, the otter curry !

For me Curtis wins a lot of balls in the air which will be ideal for Tom to run on too. Tom will get a decent run in the side now which will either make or break him. I just wish some of the so called fans (you know who you are!!!) would get off his back and support the team even if things are not going well.

Lets be honest chaps the last 8 weeks have been fantastic.

Up The Gate !!

I think its one thing venting your feelings and another booing a player when his name is read out at the start of the game..

It happened the last home game, Bradbrook was warming up on the side of the pitch by the burger van and his name was read out and people right near him booed...disgraceful...how does that help things?

And the two, maybe three oldies ay most (yes, even older than me) were requested to refrain from doing so in the future. Whether they took any notice is another matter. We'll have to wait & see.

1) Don't rate the Player but I would not Boo him. (Short Memory Alex)

2) Paul Scholes / Long balls, OK in right context,

Watched United Chelsea game, Scholes terrified them. His Long balls were magnificent (as were his short).

3) The main reason why Scholes's long balls were so devastating was, he had colleagues who can take a ball down and control it 1st touch. Collleagues who generaly know where the balls going when it leaves their head.

4) Good picture in the local "Gavin"

Comparisons with Premier League football are a bit pointless given that it is pretty much a different sport at our level. Not only are the players less able but, being part-time, there is little opportunity to improve skills, no spending hour after hour on the training pitch. You've got to keep it as simple as possible and make sure everyone understands what their role is. Alternatively, just throw money at the best players at your level, have a bit of short-term success and go bust (which is what most non-league clubs do).

So, what you are saying is you do not expect the players at this level to have the skills IE, 1st touch. "Bo***cks, the main difference's are, Speed of thought, fitness and the desire.

I say many times to people, you see everything watching Margate as you would watching a premiership side, the same passes, ball skills, shots, 30yd drives. the exception is the speed at which the game is played.

Coaching the skills and the work ethic from a young age is the way. We do have the talent locally to provide a stream of player(not all), It is the want, the desire that is missing, replaced by the expectation of instant gratification. The one thing that as really frustrated me with the reserves over the last few years as been this attitude not the lack of talent.

As for little opportunity to improve skills, People say to me "Leroy Lita" rarely went anywhere without a ball. I remember "Andy" the Coach at "Just for Keepers" saying to the youngsters Practice catching, bounce the ball from one hand to the other as you walk along, Instantly he was shot down by a Mother who said it was not safe? but this is what kids need to do to succeed. I say to the young strikers, find a wall mark an imaginary goal in your mind and spend an hour a day minimum placing shots both static and on the run. They looked at me as if to say "yeah get real"( That's what Garth Crooks ex Stoke, Tottenham, Man Utd and England international used to do against Tony Waddington's wall).

The word Marksman has been dropped, today we here the word striker, Marksman implies Skill. How can you become a marksman without Target Practice.

Rant over
