I am just putting the finishing touches to a set of written profiles of the players I watched in the late 1950's and 1960's which I propose to review with John Tebbit and then pass on for inclusion on this site. In the meantime, I believe that George Leslie, whose picture has just been posted, was a centre-half and furthermore was a member of the Walsall team which sensationally knocked the (then) mighty Arsenal out of the F A Cup in January 1933.

Superb work as always the website is a credit to the club! Profiles must have taken ages and I had a very interesting browse earlier!

Interesting to see the material reproduced from old programmes, press cuttings etc. I have a lot of programmes from the era I'm covering with similar features and photos of players that I have drawn on for my profiles. I have also been able to make cross-references to a number of other sources which I shall need to acknowledge idc.

 

I wonder if the time has come to look again at trying to get all this historical material down in book form-if that's not too old fashioned. Our programme editor here at Horsham has already produced two "proper" books on the post-war history of the club and is working on a third, about its time in the Corinthian League. Much of the content seems to be old local newspaper reports but he has written an interesting commentary as well. I will have a word with him about potential costs and so on.

Great work. Have to say we have one of the best football website comparing to non league teams, it's always up to date. Like i was on St Neots and Beconsfield website a few weeks ago, there latest fixture was in December. So great work. At leats i know every time I'm on that website i will find the latest information.

Would also like to say a massive thank you to Kaiser who has very kindly pulled together information for 166 players which will be added and integrated to the profiles on the site shortly. There have been some excellent reference material from Maidenhead United and Hayes and Yeading which have assisted Kaiser in compiliing some of his information.

 

I should also add a massive thank you to Alan Smith who originally compiled all the information to allow us to get it into the database in the first place. Alan also provided many of the pictures seen on the site for the older players in addition to much of the profile information.

 

Appreciate all the feedback so far as the DB continues to grow and we'll continue to update.

By my current estimations, I have further written information to add on 390 profiles (some new, some will be additional information), with pictures for around 100 of these to be added to the site. Plenty of work still to be done, but it is taking shape slowly!

Since I struggled a bit to put together meaningful information on some of the players I recall seeing in the late 1950's (before I started to keep my programmes) it's great to see that other contemporary sources are available to provide a more complete picture.
