Have you been out to see "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Rhodesy? Have you seen the original trilogy?

Loosely – This is more for our film buff LATO to answer but he’s too busy rubbing shoulders with the likes of Judith Keppel and Dermot Murnaghan at the moment. Yes I have seen the film but not the original trilogy, why would I be interested in that, I thought Rooney Mara was a brave choice with the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan and LATO’s own Mia Wasikowska all fighting tooth and nail for the unique role but the gamble paid off and she should win the best actress Oscar blindfolded on 26 February at the Kodak Theatre.

Well Rhodesly, the reason I asked was purely for your opinion on comparing the original main characters Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist over the more recent Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig but of course I should have known better. My bad, not your fault at all.

Loosely - Why do you always have to complicate things, you really are a strange bloke and I bet you haven't even seen the film or knew who Rooney Mara was until I mentioned her

Why is it complicated Rhodesly? I ask you a polite question and obviously you've seen none of the films and react with hostility, its the same old story but why put up these threads if you don't want a bit of discussion?

You claim that Rooney Mara should win Best Actress but can't compare original performances and say why she is so good.

Perhaps you have something to try and hide but its too late. Your ignorance and rudeness has been apparent to all for some time when you can't even manage a polite "No I haven't seen the films but I've seen all the others listed for Best Actress and can compare those".

I rest my case Rhodesly.

Loosely - So you've seen Albert Nobbs, The Help, The Iron Lady and My Week with Marilyn then, you're a bit of a Barry Norman on the quiet aren't you

So you haven't seen any of the films is what you are saying Rhodesly.

Loosely – Nice body swerve, you’re priceless!

Rhodesly, I'm afraid you are that transparent - everyone can read you like a book. Obviously you haven't even seen Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and are now furiously looking for diversions.

All you've done is seen a photo in a paper and declared her the winner. Pathetic.

met them once when recorded the show in July 2010 so not sure how that is "too busy rubbing shoulders with" but whatever rocks your boat rhodesy........why should you break the habit of a lifetime and actually say something that is actually

1) relevant

2) accurate

3) vaugely interesting

incidentally you ate that hat yet and do you know what my new job is.

Glenn Close in "Albert Nobbs"

Viola Davis in "The Help"

Rooney Mara in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Meryl Streep in "The Iron Lady"

Michelle Williams in "My Week with Marilyn"

This will be by far the most interesting of categories on 26 February as, like I said, it's not a particularly outstanding year for nominations this year. I thought LATO would have given us his expertise and what he thought of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' as, unlike Loosely, I'm sure he has seen it

I used to be interested in the Oscars, but I now suspect that all the winners are already known as soon as the films are released...

A bit like the 'squeaky-clean' (NOT), professional boxing results we eem to have been getting for the past few years

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a week to go folks before Rooney Mara learns whether she has won the Actress in a Leading Role Oscar for her amazing performance in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', surely it's just a formality:

Do tell us Cliffy, did Rooney pick up a Golden Globe for her performance?

Loosely – I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on the Golden Globes if I were you, although Meryl Streep won Best Actress the award isn’t worth the paper it’s written on when it comes to the Oscars

So Rooney didn't even pick up a Golden Globe then Rhodesy is what you are trying to say.

Loosely – Well no but around this time next week she will just be leaving one of the parties in Los Angeles clutching the Best Actress Oscar

This time next week you'll be crying foul, claiming she was robbed I have no doubt.
