Ex Winslow player Alex Woodfine equalises for Aston

2-1 Aston

2-2 I've heard I think that's what the text meant??

Correction 3-1 Aston looks like we collapsed after equaliser!

Hello mate were you not there? It was tight at the start from the start you scored against the run of play and I though it was going to be one of them days. But we dominated the game, best second Half I've seen from the boys this season.

No mate don't get back from London much these

mid players today and Phil at half time doesn't help. No excuses though as you were as I'm told much much better on the day as your position proves and a double over us. Put me in a foul mood though someone is getting lamped tonight and I'm blaming you lol. Funny season for us quality players quality gaffer (binned two Hellenic prem sides in case pissed them off the park) but having trouble getting same XI out and finding balance It seems but foundations for future look great regardless of form this season. Great lads great vibe at club a matter of when and not if. Congrats on another good win Talc although I/we won't/can't take it well. "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" Martin O'Neil

DIVISION ONE

1-2 Kings Langley v London Lions

A comprehensive report on this one from another Form:

Kings Langley 1 London Lions 2. Admission with programme £4. Attendance 74 (hc)

Chauffeur ZuluDave piloted myself and grumpydwarf to the Sun Postal v Ampthill game in the same division where we were met by officials saying the game was in doubt due to problems with the showers - an engineer was on his way apparently but the referee would decide whether or not we'd have a game. Sod this game of referee roulette we thought, although we could have done a shacker and sulked for many hours, so I was dropped at the above while the hirsute pair headed for Colney Heath. I see that the game was played, as the 0-2 result confirms, but - when in doubt, remove the doubt and back a dead cert.

I'd actually been to Kings Langley many years earlier only to suffer a late postponement so there was a kind of poetic justice in it becoming the back-up game - last time we ended up at Benington when the referee decided at 2.40 that the pitch was unfit....

Not much changed - now floodlit and rather an unkempt feel to the place I thought. There's cover down the near side which houses two rows of plastic tip-up seats with single file standing behind (ample for their crowds) which ends before you get to the half-way line. Beyond this and behind the far goal seem inaccessible although you can view from atop the bank behind the stand. The rest is railed and flat standing; there's a second pitch in front of the clubhouse which has probably been ticked by steveb. The complex is on the main road from Kings Langley to Hemel Hempstead and is about ten/fifteen minutes walk from the village centre. A good range of food on offer where I settled on a bacon & sausage roll (2 rashers/2 sausages) at £2

London Lions, based at Broxbourne pro-tem, brought about half the crowd with them and for most of the game on a pudding of a pitch it seemed as though they would prevail against the divisions top scorers but a sending off on 64, shortly after KL had reduced the lead, meant they were under the cosh for the latter stages but they deservedly held on to win in my view.

Pit stops at the White Horse in Bourne End and the Rising Sun in Haddenham and glad now to be back in the warm.

Chinola - I'll try to get there if I can, it would be good to see you again, how are you enjoying it at Wadesmill Road

It is ok...we are 3 defeats in a row now after 8 unbeaten.

We deserved to lose on Saturday.....Toky were there for the taking, they had a scratch team out and turned up about 15mins before KO...we went in with the wrong attitude thinking we would win it easily...if we had been focused and played how we could then we probably would have won comfortably..fair play to Toky.

Bucks advertiser report on us V Aston

Winslow United led through a Phil Martin goal but eventually lost 3-1 at home to league leaders Aston Clinton on Saturday.

An injury to United’s prolific striker Martin saw him sidelined after the break and Winslow, despite the brilliance of keeper Paul Bowley, were never the same again as Aston got on top with three goals, two from substitute Tom Brindley following Alex Woodfine’s strike.

The result of the South Midlands Division Two clash left Aston and the 61 FC Luton scrapping it out at the head of affairs for likely promotion honours, with Winslow 18 points adrift of their conquerors.

To stand any chance of promotion, mid-table United need to get back to winning ways quickly and hope their rivals slip up on the run-in.

Winslow dominated the early exchanges on Saturday with Martin looking lively.

On 15 minutes he tried to take the ball forward but was flattened by a defender on the edge of the Aston box, who clearly elbowed him in the face. Only a goal kick was awarded despite protests from around the ground the striker had been fouled.

Winslow’s first real chance came five minutes later when Leo Brooks headed wide from a Nathan Perna cross.

Aston threatened for a short period afterwards, Bowley making two fine saves from free kicks, the second a fingertip effort over the bar to deny Carl Clay.

A minute before half time Winslow took the lead as Martin fired home from 12 yards after good work by Perna.

Lee Watts came on for Martin after the break and not long into the half the visitors began to exert more pressure, Bowley making more good saves. Winslow rallied and James Brown had a chance to put the hosts further ahead but blazed his shot over the bar.

Aston’s pacey attacks, particularly down the left wing, began to increase in number and on 76 minutes as Winslow’s defence became stretched, the ball was fed to Alex Woodfine lurking inside the United box who tapped home the equaliser.

Four minutes later speedy substitute Brindley broke through the defence to slot home for 2-1.

Winslow were struggling to handle Aston’s penetrating attacks and in the 85th minute Brindley sealed victory with another well taken goal.

Winslow United: Bowley, Job, Ainger, Cooney, R.Wiffin, Rumble, L.Brooks, Balls, Perna, Martin, Brown. Subs: Watts, Heywood.

Aston Clinton: Parrack, Batemen, Weirich, Thorne, Tallyn, Schmidt, Clay, Kew, Ward, Woodfine, parsons. Sub: Brindley

Winslow are back in action this Saturday at Pistone & Ivinghoe, who are one place above them in the league table.

Lol, neutral reporter from Aylesbury I believe haven't had a reporter down to a game for a while normally secretary submits a few lines, guess he thought it might be worth having a look so I can't see any reason he'd show bias either way, particularly as the Advertiser hasn't always been to kind in the past it tends to favour Buckingham Town and then Buckingham Athletic.

I was at the same game as the reporter!! For once I applaud the Buckingham Advertiser for a very accurate thorough report, there was bits in the game that I had forgotten about (either through choice or old age) untill I read the report, (how the ref missed the clear elbow I and many others at the game will never know, I was stood right infront of where it took place) normally its just a few lines that I believe the club submit themselves, but for once they decided to send a reporter, the difference is very noticeable.

As for any bias I just don't see it, it suggests you were the better side in the 2nd half which for anyone at the game would be undebatable.

Andy & Lorna were there only first half though as they went home at HT sadly. They are doing an incredible job and it is fantastic to have them on board. They are now avid Winslow fans!! It was good to see him showing his support by wearing his Winslow polo shirt on Saturday :)
