Margate vs Charlton

My point and I stand by this the goalkeepers on the night were not on top of their game - both seemed edgy and this IMO showed.

Just imagining what they were thinking ...

Overland - This is Charlton and they are much higher up than us...they'll be hard to beat ...pressure!

Charlton Keeper - This is Margate and they are much lower than us...I'll look a right numpty if they get any past me...pressure!

could explain the 'edgy' bit? ;)

I give up...................................

Not there last night so can't comment on specifics, but if SO was slightly below par last night-that could be great news.

Keepers at all levels make errors-and as someone posted-if he saved everything-he would not be in non league.

By the law of averages-SO was due a mistake-it happened last night.

Maybe its got it out of the way for a bit.

when would you rather a mistake happen? :

CAFC tuesday night (kscup)

or

CAFC this saturday (ryman premiership game )

similarly-the defence has been ever improving-but just like manchester united conceding 6-you have your off days.when was the best night for margate to let in 4 goals ?

last night or saturday ?

I agree with Danny in some respects.

This is my 22nd season in goal. I've played for Margate youth, Thanet Colts and many Saturday and Sunday league teams form the prem to division 3. Im not a semi pro like Overland but the same thing applies to all keepers all over the land. If you make a mistake as a keeper it is normally fatal and results in a goal. If a striker missis a goal everyone forgets about it. You are dammed if you do as a keeper and dammed if you don't. That comes with the job. The best you can ask for with a keeper is consistancy. You'll get the best out of Overland if you, as a crowd, encourage him. If you get on his back, well you'll make his job much harder.............

Unbelievable. We're on a crest of a wave, unbeaten in 12, scoring for fun, defending the best we've done for years & then a player gets a negative comment. As mentioned elsewhere every player has his faults, none are perfect.

As a person who likes to say it as I see it too,I could pick up on a few bits on a few players but at this time the players need our support. I won't air anything negative while we are in such good form & it would have been nice had others thought this way too.

A keeper needs to have the confidence of his back line & visa versa. Attacking anyone at present especially the keeper might ruin this fantastic run we are on at present & I hope this dosen't happen from now on because I now who I will blame & it won't be a player.

If Simon loses form because of this stupid ill timed comment he might really make bloomers & then the defence will be wary of that & their form will drop & then the whole team might fall apart. All because of an ill timed comment .

For goodness sake if you have any negatives keep them to yourselves for the time being (I'm sure many, like myself voice a few negatives privately amongst friends) but to air them on the forum in a run of positive results is surely counter productive.

Save any negatives until we have a bad run rather than do it now, of all times.

I'll be giving my thoughts at times like that too but not right now as no player out there deserves a negative on the form they are in at present.

For what its worth I think Simon Overland has been in very good form & he as made some stupendous saves of late. Saves that have allowed us to go on to win games & keep this great run we are having going.

Simon has been one of a team of stars of late & I hope he ignores negative comments like these because we need to give the players our full backing, every single one of them. I'm the last person to say hold back but its not the right time to air any negatives.

Simon, you are doing just great. Keep up the good work you are doing. Your contribution to this fabulous team hasn't gone unnoticed by the vast vast majority I can assure you.

We are on top form. Why,why, why, the need to rock the boat. We are winning games not losing them!

Oh & finally if those 2 or 3 elderly gentleman who I spoke to last night, about booing, before a game, a certain player, are looking in here then please pack it in.

Its not warranted, regardless of your opinion, and is also counter productive similarly.

I apologise not for yet another Cookie marathon.

I find it fascinating that people seem to think big, tough footballers are so sensitive that a comment on the Internet could trigger some kind of mental breakdown.

Unrelated point from Tuesday - good to see people allowed to drink on the terraces. Is this not allowed in the Ryman League? If people are able to have a beer while watching us play Charlton and avoid death and destruction then I don't see why we can't do the same for league matches against teams with no fans.

No one's gone that far CE but it might,I say, might, even in a small way, affect their game at a time when we need them to stay focused & not to have distractions like this put in their way.

I think that SO is the best keeper we have had for a long time, if it takes goals scored by a strong Charlton team to bring to light some weakness then he's certainly ok for Ryman Premier. Bye the way he dos'nt get tested that much in league games and long may that last.

Nobody is forced to read the forum. We seem to be straying into Moonies territory here.

EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion Cookie and the fact you dont agree with mine makes this an OPEN forum for debate. To slate an individual player is not my intention but on the night BOTH goalkeepers looked edgy and made schoolboy errors and I commented as such (sorry if offended). I too am enjoying the way that the players are gelling and playing some fantastic football rather than what we have been used to of late ( last few seasons) so forgive me if I find one or two of our players not seeming to pull their weight so to speak - pays me money entitled to speak :P

Its not about the mention of any individual mistakes on the night that I am referring too,I have no problem with that even if I do think it a little harsh on this occasion (i.e. KSC & a chance to relax a bit after some sterling league performances).I'm sure any player will take it on the chin when he knows he has made the occasional error.

Lord knows I've done similar on many many occasions myself, commented on individual errors game by game.

It's the follow up posts putting the guy down for his overall form this season that has me annoyed.Overall he has been very very good & for you,Blueblood or anybody for that matter to say he is the weakest link is not helping matters i.m.o, despite it rightfully being your opinions,at a time when we should be praising every single one of them.

Sorry, maybe I didnt make the above clear enough in my marathon previously.

Just to add. Those boo boys,(well they are not boys as they are actually O.A.Ps, just the 3 of them),booing a player as his name is being called out & before he has kicked a ball, similarly is not constructive or helpful.

These elderly men should hold their heads in shame & not make their voices heard so clearly.Better still keep it to themselves.I didn't like it when I heard it so how do you think the player feels had he heard it.(And yes, I know they too are entitled to their opinion... but!)

We usually see things differently Tony.

Maybe I expect to much of a keeper( having Watched "Gordan Banks", "Peter Shilton", "Peter Fox for many years" and in the Conference day's "Smithy") "BUT" in my opinion a keeper is 50% 0f your team. The outfield play the game work hard and score the goals to give the team victory. The defense do their job to protect the goal as best they can if, that fails they then rely on one man. That man at that moment is the keeper. A specialised position that has or should have been coached into the man from a youngster. A great responsibility, A hell of a hard job. I do not expect perfection at this level but I do expect the basics, catch a ball, only punch at the last resort as you have no control as to where or whom the ball goes. A pair of safe hands when going to collect a ball that is rolling towards you not, relying on the post to rebound it into your hands. To COMMAND your area not stand on your line. Communicate to your defence, Tell them what you want of them. Basics.

One thing we agree on Tony is BOOING your own players is disgraceful.

See you tonight.

Who would be a goalkeeper !!

Blue blood rightly raises the quality of Phil smith-but he made a few errors-not great on crosses and came in for his fair share of critcism.

I believe there is some guy at Manchester called de Gea who equally gets criticism-as i say-who would be a keeper.

and yes-overall-Overland has done well this season and certainly won a few extra points with his saves-keep it up
