Cambs Cup

Royston 1-1 Cambridge City

Royston win 8-7 on Pens

Good game this (for your ino Rhodes Mr Hammond did not play)

Both teams were not at full strength but good entertainment

Royston take an 118th Minute lead but somehow 4 minutes get added to a 15 minute second extra time period and City level with literally last kick.

City have a penalty kick to win in intial five alloted but keeper saves and in sudden death Royston have 2 kicks to win it but each time miss.

The two keepers only left of the eleven outfield players after ten kicks each with Royston keeper saving City's effort and then striking home the winning kick himself. Not bad for an 18 year old :-) !! 180 spectators got good value for money I'd say

Why do you / we care if he did not or not? He left years ago, and Royston are the strongest they have ever been so does not matter too much!

Unfortunately Rhodes has this obsession with Craig Hammond, just like his one for Kevin Gallen.

He's just a sad bugger who loves nothing more than antagonizing people on this forum.

League position does agree with my opinion - Royston have played at a higher level than this - I was disputing your "strongest they have ever been" comment.

Craig played a big part in Royston's promotion to the SSML premiership - but would he fit in at the moment?.

These are two seperate points.

I genuinely hope that the current squad have it in them to keep the quality performances going. It is up to the management team to keep them focused.

Latchford - Craig is a born goalscorer and would fit in at Manchester City or Manchester United at the moment let alone Royston Town. I don't think he got enough credit for what he achieved at Garden Walk before hastily signing for Histon when he should have held out for one of the many League Club's who were interested in his services.

But to be fair to Rhodes, last time he went and saw a real SSML game was probably when Craig was at Royston. Bless him he's probably just confused that things have moved on... but he hasn't!

Hold on, didn't someone put a link up showing Rhodes recently at a Hertford Town Game. Last time I checked that was an SSML Team. Now, I don't know when his previous game attendance was.

Don't think that they have played at a higher level. Royston Town were once members of the Isthmian League, but only in its lowest division. This division (Div 3 when they left it) was only the same level as where they are now.

He was meant to be out on release to go to a funeral. They've got him for it though, he was wearing a tag.

DIVISION ONE CUP Quarter Final

4-2 Ampthill Town v Buckingham Athletic

A report from another Forum:

South MIdlands League Division One Cup 1/4 Final

Ampthill Town 4 Buckingham Athletic 2

Att: 59

Entry £4

Coffee 60p, Cheeseburger £2, Filled rolls £1.20

With games in the area (and this League) dropping like flies we were pleased to find out that this one was on.

Now Finbar in a recent post alluded to the fact that the current generation of Hoppers have it easy due to internet and mobile phone availability. Yes communication is undoubtedly easier BUT 30 years ago you wouldn't have needed to make contact as games would not have been called off on a night like this just because there had been a little bit of rain. Indeed we found ourselves having a ridiculous discussion as to whether the game would be on as when we got to about 5 miles from Ampthill we were having to use the intermittent wiper in the car. That is how ridiculous things have got.

Upon arrival about 10 mins before kick off, the lights were on but not a soul was on the pitch, nor could we see anyone in the ground. Fortunately as we approached the entry gate our fears were allayed as we could see several people in the bar and others pitch side of the clubhouse but not visible from outside the ground.

First half was totally one-sided, the hosts scored with 3 fine efforts and could have at least doubled that. HT 3-0.

More of the same in the 2nd half, but without the goals. Eventually Buckingham pulled one back and the game was just petering out. Then as 90 mins were reached on the clock a fine cross/shot made it 4-1 with just enough time left for a deflected effort to complete the scoring at 4-2. Really a more comfortable win than the scoreline suggests.

An enjoyable evening spent in the company of fellow poster LS8, and at least I am now beginning to understand such important things as to how a club reaches TBCITW status, and such like.
