Club Statement: Thanet Council give green light to MFC development

No! Well not from me anyway Michael. I came away rather sad & even more annoyed that we hadn't got a decision on the night but KP seems happy with things & he knows a damned sight more of what is going on than I do so I would suggest you trust in his mini delight tonight rather than my slightly downbeat attitude, post council meeting.

However I will give it as I saw & heard it.

Yes, we have had lengthened & rubber stamped the mini leases. A step closer to the winning line one would say.

But surely the 125 yr lease (not granted yet) is the most important one & without that being granted those mini leases will mean nothing will they not?.

If we dont get 125 yr lease (or any lease) on the Travelodge would we be seeing building works begin on a new stadium? I doubt it !

(quote "The developers have been asked to supply supporting evidence to prove that a shorter lease period does not deliver the value required from the development" unquote)

KP seems happy that he can convince & prove to the cabinet that 125 yrs is acceptable & valid & I'm more than hopeful that he will do just that. When he does then I see no reason why I can't THEN celebrate fully, but until that has been rubber stamped, excuse me if I hold back temporarily on my celebrations.

We have moved a lot lot nearer the finishing line but we certainly are not over that winning line just yet.

Thats all I'm trying to say here.

A while back Mr Moores mentioned on his blog that after having sought legal advice the final decision for this would have to go back to Cabinet. Something that I commented on about at the time to a few people.I was told, incorrectly by a member of the opposite party that he was wrong. On this occasion Mr Moores was absolutely spot on & my contact within the labour party had their facts wrong. I won't say anymore on Mr Moores though as most of the time he just rattles on about the "bottom line" & I couldn't see him being employed as a negotiator, anywhere, as he seems to fail to be able to negotiate despite the "bottom line". For someone that was 100 % behind us I didnt think it right that he should abstain from voting. Surely he should have voted for us .But I didnt really expect anything else from him even if others did

As mentioned elsewhere Mr Ezekial spoke up exceedingly well on our behalf. I shall be e.mailing him to thank him. Surprised by that a little. Just a shame his earlier antics on other items on the agenda weren't so popular with me.

Other tories spoke well of the club & the development too & thanks to them also. Nice to see that not all the opposition wear blinkers.

Flowers! Yes about an hour or hour & a half debating £20,000 worth of flowers & the expense it incurs.

When that was broken down by a Labour member that Westgate had "X" amount,Ramsgate had "X" amount & other towns in Thanet also had "X" amounts then it all seemed very cheap. I like flowers around the town anyway & am glad they tories lost the vote on two amendments on that lengthy subject.

Anyways back to the main subject. Yes,we came away with something "more" than before but we haven't got the FULL green light just yet despite the official page suggesting we have.

Looking forward to next Thursday (I can now attend) as KP will give it from his side & I think those that go to that meeting will go away feeling much better about things having heard it from him rather than accepting what I am saying on this.

We are of course both on the same side but I am just slightly more wary than he thats all.

The thing that amazes me is what difference does it make. 80 or 125 years nobody here today will be around. I know we have to protect the future but in 80 years time the club will still be here or it will have disappeared, one way or another I can't see the problem

Its quite obvious. Stalling tactics once again in hope that MFC lose the deal with travelodge. That way they can say that they have done everything they could should Travelodge pull out.

Its the same with Manston. In fear of upsetting a few idiots that bought houses on a flight path, TDC stall and put everything in the way of progress all at a time when unemployment in Thanet is high and Boris starts pushing his barmy airport just 30 miles up the road. Don't get me started. Things take too long in Thanet which is why we will always be one of the poorest area's in Kent.

Wouldn't it just be easier to turn down the plans than risk being sued by a major company and the developer?

Dragging the process out costs both the tax payer and MFC/partners - councillors will get their expenses regardless, bravado hooorays and boos will count for nought but hot air on the night.

TDC: "Support the granting of a lease within the current football ground area for the construction of a hotel in line with the approved planning application, but try and ensure that the lease is as short as possible, whilst still making the project work financially."
