Old programmes, photos or memories

Rebel Kay

Recommended Posts

I have been approached by a nurse from Wexham Park Hospital, who works with elderly patients who's memories are fading.

Apparently there are some Rebels fans amoungst them. The request is for any old programmes, photos, articles that could be used to stimulate their memories and spark some discussion/interest.

I wonder whether any of you have such things stashed away at home that you would be prepared to donate to the ward.

Or even be prepared to donate some of your time, to go and chat to these guys.about a topic close to many of our hearts.

Apparently the 70s and 80s would be the ideal time for these items to originate from, but earlier or later would I am sure be welcomed too.

We don't know and they would not be able to give out names.

Dementia awareness week is coming up and I think it would be fabulous if we could do something practical to help.

So please everyone, go rummage in your lofts and see what you can dig out. If you find photos, we can copy them.

Dementia often effects short term memory, leaving long ago events clear, so to be able to have something to trigger these memories could really brighten up someones day.

That is very sad news. Alf Wiltshire was the first team goalkeeper when I first started watching the Rebels and, if I remember correctly, played with something of a limp. I recall being down at the Dolphin watching Alf in the reserves on the day his replacement, Terry Prebble, made his debut in an away match at Grays Athletic. When the half time score of 5-2 down was announced over the tannoy, there was a chorus of "You'd better get over there quick, Alf." from the terrace behind Alf's goal. The game finished 8-2!

As regards information on the database, I have been drafting short profiles for a lot of the players from the 1950's and 1960's and, once I have finished and they have been checked for accuracy (old men forget, and what they don't remember, they invent-only joking), I would hope to see them posted.
