Just to add to Annie's post, here are the match details. Annie - I have amended the Brentwood team slightly as there was a mistake in the team sheet - their number four was Tony Russell and not Tony Roberts. (I think it was a typo.)

HORNCHURCH 0 BRENTWOOD 0

A very entertaining game, in which both goalkeepers – Tim Pittman for Brentwood and Mark Richardson for Hornchurch – played a major part in keeping the match scoreless. Brentwood fielded a very experienced team, but it was Hornchurch who looked the more dangerous I the first half, with a string of attacks, which led to several fine saves by Pittman. A long throw from Steve Sutton appeared to take a deflection into the net, but the ball had trickled around the post instead, whilst shots from Frankie Williams and Billy Pearce cannoned off the post. It was a similar story at the other end, where Brentwood twice hit the bar, and Richardson made two instinctive saves to keep out shots from close range.

The near misses continued in the second half and the sound of the ball hitting the post or bar again dominated proceedings. Best chance for Hornchurch fell to Byron Cipa who gathered the ball close to the half way line and powered through, but was tackled by Ryan Cosson when about to shoot. Two long throws from Steve Sutton created danger in the visiting goalmouth, and the other end Mark Richardson had to race yards out of his goal to kick clear, only for the ball to rebound off Jose Espinosa and curl back goalwards, where it eventually dropped inches wide of the post. With both sides intent on finding the winning goal, there were several goalmouth incidents before referee Dave Axcell brought proceedings to a conclusion. For Hornchurch Frankie Willliams returned following a lengthy spell at Barking, whilst Steve Merrick had a fine come back game, having missed the last six months due to injury.
