CAPTAIN Craig Disley will be rested by Grimsby Town for their FA Trophy clash with AFC Hornchurch.

The Mighty Urchins visit Blundell Park on Saturday in the second round of the competition.

Disley has been struggling with a knock to his ankle, and joint bosses Rob Scott and Paul Hurst will take the opportunity to rest the midfielder.

Defender Ian Miller is cup-tied, having played against the Mariners for previous club Darlington in Town's 3-0 win in the first round of the competition.

New signing Kiernan Hughes-Mason is also ineligible.

Bradley Wood returns from suspension and is in contention, as is Charlie I'Anson (ankle).

Midfielder Anthony Church remains a doubt (back).

From another local rag....

Grimsby Town: It's all change for FA Trophy clash

SKIPPER Craig Disley is set to sit out Grimsby Town's FA Trophy second round clash with AFC Hornchurch tomorrow to rest his troublesome ankle injury.

And the Mariners will also be denied the services of cup-tied trio Ian Miller, Kiernan Hughes-Mason and Kenny Arthur against the Isthmian League Premier Division side at Blundell Park.

It means Town will be forced to change the side that clinched a fifth consecutive league win at Cambridge on Tuesday.

But joint boss Paul Hurst says the decision to rest Disley is the right move to give him extra time to aid his recovery from the problem he has been carrying for several weeks.

It means a possible switch inside for Frankie Artus alongside in-form Andi Thanoj, though Hornchurch-born Anthony Church could make the team if his back injury has eased in time.

Hurst said: "Craig Disley will be out for us tomorrow.

"He has been struggling for quite a few weeks now with his ankle injury.

"We have had to take care of him training-wise to get him out on the pitch.

"Last Saturday at Alfreton was the worst he has been where he was limited a little.

"We didn't have too many options with Churchy out and thankfully he was okay for Tuesday.

"Now, though, is realistically the first chance to rest him and he will do different fitness work over the next ten days.

"It's about getting him right for the big league games ahead.

"We are hopeful we might be able to include Churchy.

"But it's one of those injuries that can change on a daily basis.

"It has improved slightly so we will see how he is."

Miller, who ironically misses out after his appearance at Blundell Park for holders Darlington in Round One, will be a big miss for Town after three impressive displays since his arrival at the turn of the year.

But with Bradley Wood's suspension complete and Charlie I'Anson back in training, the Town bosses do at least have options in defence.

Shaun Pearson is the most likely to step into Miller's shoes, however.

Meanwhile, Hughes-Mason's appearance at Gateshead for Kettering rules out a chance of a first start since he signed.

Hurst continued: "We obviously knew when we brought Ian and Kiernan in they couldn't play in this competition, it's not something we have just found out.

"Ian played against us and has had the experience of lifting the trophy.

"After a clean sheet it would have been nice to have at least had the option of playing him.

"Charlie has made good progress and did some work before the game at Cambridge. It might be he can come into our thoughts as well.

"In Kiernan's case, it might have been a game where we could have got him some minutes on the pitch.

"Kenny is added to that list of cup-tied players as well if we had any thoughts of tinker with the goalkeeping situation.

"So we are missing three but it's an opportunity for one or two others to be in the squad or the team.

"We have a good idea of how we are going to go.

"We have Woody back but I don't think we will use him in midfield.

"In truth we didn't get to look at Woody in midfield as much as we had planned in pre-season.

"As the season has progressed since, he has been pretty much a regular at full-back.

"At this moment in time we are not looking at him as a midfielder but at the same time, we know if we really need to he can step in and do okay in that role.

"We will be picking a team capable of beating Hornchurch."

Admission for the Hornchurch clash is £10 adults, £5 senior citizens and £1 juniors.

Wonder if Anthony Church is the lad who used to live in Maple Avenue, seem to remember he was a promising footballer.

Disley not playing is a big plus for you, he's up there with the best central midfielders in our division. If Church isn't fit I think Frankie Artus will take his place and he's played well after coming in to the side recently, next to 19 year old Andi Thanoj, who like-wise, has played well since coming in to the side.Neither are the toughest-tackling midfielders you'll see so you might have a bit of success through the middle if you can close them down quickly and have a couple of bullies in there.
