Supporters team friendly?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My housemates' team (a second string pub team in Reading) are looking for friendly matches now that their season is nearly finished, and I was wondering if anyone would be up for playing a friendly with them before one of our home games in February or March? Maybe at the home of our new youth setup? Don't know if that is possible, perhaps Chris S could advise.

As we don't get many games for the team at this level it would be good to get the team an extra game. Hopefully we can find a date to do it, was thinking possibly before our game with Northwood or Biggleswade.

If you would be up for it leave a message on here.

I would mostly certainly be up for this, very keen for another game. And now I'm cycling 33 miles a week I reckon that I may be able to last the whole game without getting cramp or spending half of it wheezing.

I assume you mean the Beaconsfield v Rugby game on 24th March (on the same day we play at Ashford). Sounds good to me if we can get the team together for two games in a month.

Ok, so up to 6 so far, there must be more out there who are up for a game! If it helps, the team which my housemates play for don't win too many games in their league and seem to get heavily beaten quite regularly!! Could provide a good warm up for any game against Rugby. Obviously they would have the advantage of playing as a team every week over us that do not!

And Mark - I have been assured that some of them at least could come down and watch the game in the afternoon.

Do we know if we could get a pitch at Farnham Park for this game?

Does anyone have any suggestions for where we could play? Could be worth finding a 'home' pitch for us to play on particularly if we want to take on the Rugby supporters at the end of March as well as this game against my housemates' team.

Also does anyone who has volunteered to play have any particular day they would prefer? Was thinking either 3rd or 17th March.

I can do either or with a marginal preference for the 17th. May be worth asking around if you are at the game tomorrow.

Ok, based on what has been said, I have pencilled in the game for the 3rd of March with the opposition.

Will stick up a couple of fliers at the game tomorrow. now all we need is a full team and a pitch to play on!

Yes, it would be great to play the St Neots game too. May be worth focusing on getting a team together for the 2 games at Farnham Park - which will be booked in for the 3rd and 24th March by Mike Lightfoot once I email him shortly - before we get ahead of ourselves with regards to an away game at St Neots. Hoping it will be easier to get a team for the home games although I had a little bit of interest today no-one really said they would definately be up for it.

And sorry - my mistake - the Rugby game would be on Saturday 24th March not 28th as mentioned above and on the flier at the game today, got my dates confused! Waiting for a response from their forum.

To keep people updated, Mike has booked us a pitch at Farnham Park for the two dates above. He says that, for anyone organising a home supporters game, Farnham Park is to be used as several pitches are hired by the club for use on Saturdays.

I am still waiting from Tom at Rugby to come back to me on whether they will have a team for the 24th March, I'm guessing we will know more next week after their next match.

We still need players for both games, we currently have 7 who want to play, along with a couple who may be interested/would volunteer if really necessary, so if you speak to people that are not on this forum who would be up for a game, get them involved and let me know on here.

Also, my housemates' pub team actually won their first game since their reserve team was formed 2 years ago on Saturday, so we don't need to worry about giving them their first win ;)
