Burnham 1-1 Slough Town

From where I was, it looked like Coyne made contact with the keepers leg during that tackle, no malice, but I felt the ref was right to give the yellow card. It was 50-50 but Coyne seemed to make the most contact with the keeper after the ball was cleared by the keeper.

we are in real danger of losing at least a couple of those players that are always on the bench. the 11 we currently are using have played 4 games in 2 weeks and yet only used subs for 5-10 minute spells in 1 maybe 2 of the 4 games. Herron, Burgess and Abbey are not bad players and could easily inject fresh impetus into tough games.

we showed how much panic we can cause when we up the tempo and pace of the game yesterday straight away in the 2nd half and in spells later on. whether we couldnt keep that up partly due to fatigue im not sure but surely subs should be used if that winning goal isnt coming

Looking at Twitter, Danny Murphy is annoyed with the Management it seems!

We missed Danny Murphy yesterday. He is too good not be in the side IMO.

And ami right in saying we didn't use a sub today?? Don't understand that we could have seriously done with some fresh legs?! Think the team showed great battling 2nd half after a poor first!

You wouldn't want to be a substitute under Steve Bateman,as he is poor in the use of them and predictable,in the fact that, when he does put one on it's with about 15 mins to play, the second one has about 5mins and the 3rd usually 2 mins!

Why bother having substitutes,if you are not going to use them.Steve Sinclair didn't have one of his better games, yesterday.Burgess could easily have come on for him. Perkins could have come on for Coyne. Herron could have come on for Swift. Abbey could have come on for either of the front two to give them a rest but instead we made none!

Most of the players had a poor first half but to play devils advocate:

We came out fired-up in the second half, scored an early goal and proceeded to play a lot better. The game was on a knife-edge at 1-1 and with 15/20 minutes to go we were creating chances and pressurising the Burnham goal.

If the game is very tight i.e. 0-0, 1-1 or 1-0 up and there is no obvious week-link, in the ascendency and are pressing for a winner, I think very few Managers would make a substitution.

I think I'm right in saying that both Burnham's substitutions were enforced.

I am not sure 10 was an enforced substitution but it was certainly a sensible one after the ref warned him twice that one more infringement would lead to his marching orders. The ref made a rod for his own back by gesticulating wildly during his conversations making it very clear what he was saying. If it had just been a quiet word we would have been none the wiser.

Lewis Driver, the ex Holyport forward was subbed before he was sent off.He made some very dodgy tackles throughout the game and that's why the ref booked him.

I understand,Reading Rebel, what you're saying about keeping it tight and I suppose it depends wether you think a 1-1 draw with Burnham is okay.I thought Burnham closed us down well in the first half and always had two players marking Steve Sinclair when he was in possession.Considering we had three centre midfielders first half, our efforts were tame in that department.

The switch to a back four ie 4-4-2 and a rollicking at the half-time break, stirred us into action and Slough looked the more likely team to win in the 2nd half.

I think with a bit of foresight and gumption,we could have got 3pts rather than 1. As the 2nd half wore on,I thought that the Slough threat fizzled out somewhat and given that we have five substitutes,we could have, at least used two of them to change the dynamism and to have pressed for a winner.

Perhaps RR, you and Steve Bateman are like Sven Goran Erikkson, in being conservative with your substitutes, whereas I'm a bit more Glenn Hoddle-ish in being a tad more adventurous. There's no right or wrong way but it depends how you like the game to be played.I want to win games, not draw them but I don't want to lose them either. I'll accept that 1 point in an away derby match is no disgrace. However,to be champions we need to be beating mid table teams.
