ROMFORD FC v ENFIELD TOWN FC

A fantastic result today and coupled with the Redbridge victory on Monday that's 8 goals added to our goal difference which could prove vital at the end of the season. Very surprised to see Leiston drawing at home to Ware given the fine form they have been in but very grateful all the same.

The next game will again be a difficult one when Brentwood visit us next Saturday. Brentwood are by far a better team away having only lost 2 and conceded just 7 but with our defence strong and attackers banging in goals for fun we will be going at Brentwood full of confidence. Its also worth noting that Hope's not scored any of the 8 goals we have scored in last 2 games (if i'm correct in thinking the goal v Redbridge has been credited to Leon).

On a final note it has been mentioned that today was Jon Moore's final appearance for the Town as he is emigrating to Australia. Jon has been one of our most reliable and consistent players this season and imo I believe he is one of the better players to wear the Town colours in our short history and has also formed a tremendous midfield partnership with Dean. It is a shame that Jon has chosen this time to move on rather than at the end of the season after hopefully helping us achieve promotion but unfortunately for us it wont be the case. I'd like to thank Jon for all his energy and commitment he has given the shirt and its fitting that he leaves us on top of the league. Good luck for the future Jon.

Romford (0) 0

Enfield Town (2) 5 Moore 25, Johnston 36, Ottley (OG) 52, Hall 78(P), Matata 80

Attendance 172

In his last game for Enfield, skipper for the day Jon Moore led the way as Enfield pulled off a convincing win against Romford though the Boro can be forgiven for leaving the pitch trying to work out what went wrong. The early stages were fairly equal. Jack Bardy showing composure heading back to keeper Lamar Johnson with Jon Moore and Liam Hope breathing down his neck. An early shot for Noel Imber to save and a gilt edged chance for Chris Sullivan as a ball over the top saw him clear on goal only for it to stick in the mud. Enfield were pushing forward as well with Walid Matata causing problems out wide and Moore and Hope linking well. Adam Wallace sent a cross into the danger zone, only for three Enfield players to combine to miss the ball completely, but the warning signs were starting to show for Romford. Matata struck a shot on the half volley just wide, but the next attack paid off. A high ball into the box from Wallace was brought down well by Hope who laid off for Moore to make no mistake drilling into the corner leaving Johnson little chance. Romford had a quick opportunity to level but Sullivan’s shot was held by Imber. With both sides in attack mode Neil Johnson played a great ball across the Romford goal but Hope cut his shot over the bar. Then a great flowing move from Enfield resulted in Wallace being played into the box on the right and cutting the ball across the keeper for Johnson to drive home unmarked. As the half closed out, Enfield were taking control and Hope could have made it three but for a good clearance at the post.

Matata showed determination in the second half, nearly pulling off an overhead kick while prostrate in the Romford area. It wasn’t such a good start for Romford’s David Ottley. With Matata lurking, he was forced to deal with a dangerous ball across the goal from Hope, only to hit it past his own keeper for the third Enfield goal. A double substitution breathed life into the Romford attack and they came close when a good shot from Elliott Anderson was parried by Imber. Neil Johnson had another shot blocked before Paul Clayton glanced a header across the face of the Enfield goal. Imber then made a close range save from Joe Bates. But the threat was snuffed out in dramatic style with two goals in as many minutes. Leon Osei seemed to be penned in by the corner flag with few options, only to beat two defenders and make his way into the Romford area. Ottley’s misfortune was compounded as he desperately tried to stop Osei, bringing him down in the box conceding a penalty. Enfield’s Rudi Hall converted the spot kick and before Romford had a chance to compose themselves Enfield had scored again. Johnston made a great run on goal before cutting the ball unselfishly to Matata who finished from close range.

I'm living in London, Muswell Hill actually, and have been for a few months. I've been to a couple of home games already and will be down for more. I'm doing a modest bit of ground-hopping around London at present - have been to a dozen or so grounds already - league and non-league, in between travelling to and from Europe. We will be here for close to a couple of years all up. I am very impressed by the work that everyone at the Club has done to get the QEII up and running. It's a great credit to all and a great boost for Enfield as a community.

Goal difference could indeed prove crucial at the end of the season so great to be addressing that not only with goals scored but with clean sheets. We seem to be working alot harder to defend and work back all over the pitch. Goals are have been coming from midfield and its important to keep that going with Johnny Moore now gone. We need to contribute elsewhere. We cannot rely on Liam to score every game! We know he will score regularly but its important that the onus for goals doesnt just fall on his and the forwards shoulders. That why its great to see Johnstone chipping in recently.

Come on you towners!
