South Park v Mole Valley SCR - Wednesday 4th January

Recommended Posts

Took this one in myself and must agree with Bommie. Weather battered everyone in the ground. Quick take on the game was that IMO South Park must of been missing a couple of regular starters but all credit to MV as they all worked their socks off to retain possession all night. A couple of loanees from Walton Casuals for MV but James Brown for them stood out a mile in my eyes. Think the wind got hold of the second goal as Wozza didn't move too much for it. Nice to talk with Briggers from this forum and wish both teams good luck for the rest of the season. Oh and by the way couldn't help but chuckle at MV gaffer as he stood opposite side to the dug out all night barking his orders, puffing on his fags. Tables don't lie but on this can't see how they prop it up. Shame you weren't there Tuffers would of been nice to catch up.

Ridiculous game to try and play in, couldnt judge anything and my slip allowed ther player to break and create their attack for the first goal. You could tell there were a few players keen to impress the Manager (possibly the most irritating guy I've come across in the ccl, shouting and swearing the whole game, but guess he's just getting behind his team). They were chasing everything down and despite having a couple of players missing we only really created a couple of chances in the first half.

Second half, conditions got worse with the wind stronger and rain heavier. Didn't actually see what happened with the second goal as I closed down a cross and just saw it come through about 10 bodies in to the bottom corner. We had a goal ruled out for offside, which initially I thought the red had done excellent to overrule his assistant who had flagged the player who actually was off but not interfering, allowing play to go on and us to score making it 1-1 at the time, only to be talked out of it. Apart from that thought ref was actually quite good.

Need to put last night behind us. Good luck to MV for the season, no real standout players for me but a completely different side to last time and players who look like working for each other.

Have to say, it was one of those games that made me glad i have retired!! Seeing how both keepers struggled with judging things it must have been horrible.

Credit to South Park for getting the game on after the weather we had, and the pitch looked in great nick (Milesy4 how did you think it played?) and credit to both sides for at least providing a relatively entertaining game.

From our point of view we have changed recently and the lads are working together - much different to how we were at the start of the season - which is encouraging - and we now have a relatively settled backline rather than the wholesale changes which happened at the start, and that is obviously helping.

Good luck to South Park for the rest of the season - nice people nice place - hope they can go up to Whitley Bay and do the business.

Padlock - good to meet another forumite and have a chat.

The pitch itself wasn't actually that bad, Briggers. Boggy in some areas and got a little worse as the game went on but not bad. Absolutely terrible in the 1m squared that I slipped in (cough cough) but no, credit to our Chairman for getting it on as he did a lot of work on it yesterday.

I said way back when Mole Valley turned us over at Stag Meadow that their performance belied their league position. Really hope that the return goes ahead this weekend because we owe them one :P

That will be on. No probs!

Must say conditions didnt suit either team, but still an entertaining encounter. Fair play to SCR they are fighting for their lives, albeit maybe in vain but at least they are giving it a go!Watching the game I believe it was more of a case of getting a result for SCR than to impress their outspoken, lively Manager, who seems to have been ejected from the dugout these days, according to one of their officials.(nice fella,a big guy, sorry cant remember his name)apparently the new backroom (asst.mangr/coach)are beginning to make their presence felt.To be fair SCR had the better chances to score.Stand out player was definitely the SCR C/H,quality.Rumour has it he is on his way to a higher club whos manager was present,so will be a massive loss for SCR.The Park huffed and puffed but really didnt create enough to win it,but did have 1/2 good openings, better conditions and The Park would of put SCR to the sword IMO.I was near on in line with the offside decision and IMO they were both off.SCR's back line all stopped as they were sure he was off.Very rare you see a decision overruled, lady luck shinned on SCR last night.Alas Windsor are in line for a goal fest.Judging by their results,SCR are unable to win the next game after a good result and seemingly get tonked,by at least 4-0,(looks like when the loanees have gone back to their parent club).Windsor are on City's coat tails and failure is not an option.A cut up pitch will suit SCR to a T,soak up pressure and the long ball over the top on a break, will be very intriguing, both teams with something to play for.

Hi ShoelessJoe

I dont think he has been ejected from the dugout, just allows him to get on with other stuff (especially at home games) and allow the two new guys to get their hands on the team (big guy you mention was probably Chris our matchday secretary).

The centre half - George Murphy is on a dual registration with Walton (although he has only played once for them - last Monday) as is Liam Holden the 10 (and again Liam has been with us for 6 years, started the season with us, before moving to Walton, so fair play to him).

With regards to us playing badly when the loanees go back - i wish that was the case, at least it would give us an excuse for the performances - but on the whole they have all been involved when we play the next game after a decent win.

A little bit of consistency and we might be ok. If not, as you say, we will give it a go and wont give up with a battle.

Hi Briggers

I was just saying what I was told ," The gaffa is better off on the opposite side away from the dug out! " Which made me laugh! Seems he has a lot of faith with the entourage that was in your dug out, even though I only saw one guy out of the three(Turkish looking)giving all the info, not sure what role he has as you have no pics on the website, but seemed confident and assured on how to get the best out of the players, without effing and blinding, constantly encouraging.Superb player young George, alas cant see him staying with you guys much longer, which will be a major loss to your survival chances.Hopefully he wont have his head turned, but seems unlikely. When ground hoping its nice to see a variety of teams and I was impressed on how SCR went about their business.I have noticed (match reports) that the team does change week in week out,is this panic mode and a case of just throwing the loanees in or is it injuries? Have you some kind of agreement with Casuals then? Or are they just taking your players and are you benefiting from what they supply you guys? I was told you had five loanees playing but that came third party fire and theft so could be wrong. No offence intended but you guys will need an even better performance than last nights to get anything out of Windsor irrespective of your earlier victory,as Windsor are now a different animal and have to win and pray City slip up!Similar to the situation with you guys at the bottom, you need results to go your way.CCL wise, its a great scenario,as yet no one is clean away at the top and no one is cut adrift at the bottom.Happy days!!

Ah so that was you was it padlock? 3 bridges guy?

Yes mate, at a guess you were the chap with the I pad of what dear old mick was entirely fascinated !

That was me lol!

PS shoeless Joe, from what I gathered last night the arrangement between mole valley and casuals is entirely amicable and of help to both. Lots of connections in the management teams.

No offence taken at all.

Darren, our manager, is the reason we are where we are, and he more than most puts his heart and soul into the club. It is a family affair - his dad founded the club and is the chairman, whilst Darren does all the other jobs, pretty much except the ones I do (and Chris's match sec role).

Still looking to get pics up on the site, but Jim, the guy you are referring to is the Assistant Manager, John Heath, the old guy (older, sorry John if you read this) is the coach.

Team changes mainly come down to injuries and unavailability - work factors being a major issue for us (as i am sure it is for others) and we haven't had the strength in depth this year.

Of the loanees - Liam and George i mentioned earlier (and as you say George is a cracking player), Ade the central midfielder (8) last night i dont think has played for their first team and if I am honest not sure of the others, could be the two full backs (although the left back Brad, like George has been with us since leaving Leatherhead back in September, and i think Joe at right back was playing his first game for 3/4 months).

Relationship with Walton is pretty good - Mick's assistant there was our reserve team manager last year, and had a brief spell on the sidelines with us before Mick got the Walton job (during which time Mick came down to watch a few games).

I think it works pretty well - and seems to suit both parties

Didn't Walton Casuals assistant Cameron be involved with MV ? I think he was last seasons reserve team manager, then I believe (not 100%) he went to Leatherhead altho' I stand corrected ? Anyway, there's the connection between the 2 clubs so assume that is why Holden and Murphy played as loanees/dual registration as I believe Fernandez, Hoadley and Okrior does also - again I stand corrected but seen these names on MV website ? Also MV Danny Elgar used to play for Guildford City last season (I think) or season before).

Hope that helps Shoeless Joe.

ps: Sorry for repeating Briggers comments, I have just read his post ! Pretty well backs up what I said anyway.

Cheers for that Briggers,

Just curious.

Ive seen many an agreement between two clubs always seem to favour the higher ranked.I gather its a case of one in one out in terms of players leaving SCR for Casuals, they take one, then loan you one. Which is fair play but IMPO I cant see how this can benefit SCR in the long run as without a shadow of a doubt its your BETTER players going? Fair play ,which player wouldnt want to test themselves at a higher level? Thanx to Nice Guys input,Ive checked on the said names and Fernandez winger,Holden Striker,George C/H all seem to be BIG BIG players for SCR,so Im struggling to see how SCR benefits as you are in a desperate dog fight and are losing the cream.I gather yourself Briggers and assuming Bomaya being SCR officials are obviously very happy with the current agreement, yet I still fail to see how SCR profits? Maybe Im wrong.......

To be honest SJ, after our first 10 league games saw 10 defeats we needed something to give us a boost.

Long term it is definitely not the answer, short term, well it has helped make us competitive and given us a slim chance of avoiding relegation - which if we had carried on as we started the season would not have happened.

I have been involved both as a player and current capacity for about 13 years and have seen Darren and his dad move us from a struggling Croydon & District Sunday side to where we are now - so do have complete faith in them.

Since moving to Saturday's it has all been success, so this is a new experience for us, and come season end whatever the outcome, we will have learnt from it.

On the plus side, we have secured a base for our Vets and Colts set up (currently 10 youth sides from 18's to 8's), so even if the worst happens we are still in a relatively good place as a club.
