Target man on the way?

Freshen our attack?

Danny & Sean have scored 32 goal between them that's half of the total Slough have scored.

I can't see the logic in that statement

I might be wrong but I think Mr Rebel means something different to what we've got now.

A forward who's big and strong, can hold the ball up to bring other players into play, is good in the air and has Charlie Mpi's pace.

There must be someone out there who's available with all the right attributes

Forgot to mention, he must also be prepared to spend his fair share of time on the Dame Judy

I think Tom and Ian are right. This season we have sacrificed attacking flair for defensive stability. Sinclair is playing in a deeper role and it is left to him Coyne and the left wing back to create the chances. So far this is working as when the chances have come along Danny and Sean take enough of them to win us games. Personally if we were to add someone I'd be more inclined to go for an attacking, flair player who can play on the flanks with a bit of pace. Someone like Sealey or Buchanan. I think if we go for this target man character we may end up tempted into slinging long balls forward rather than playing to our strengths. We always look our best when we get Sincs, Swift or Murphy attacking the full backs in wide areas.

But I am more than happy with the way things are going this season so if it ain't broke........

i was most certainly not criticising Burnell and Sonners efforts i just feel we seem to run out of ideas creatively at times especially in tight games and so to have someone else around to change our game in our favour would be good. i dont want to start the no plan b rubbish again but its handy to have players you can identify as someone who can change the course of a game. another striker would be ideal but its not an absolutely desperate signing

Pritchard could be a good option as we dont really get at teams. most teams we play have someone who runs at pace at teams but we dont really have that consistently. Sinclair does at times but his attacking instincts have been lessened as part of the tightening of the defence.

It's interesting that this is the first time Bateman has admitted the name of the player he is trying to sign before the official signing announcement. Given that we have struggled to sign players recently it will be interesting to see if he decides to sign for us.

Some strange anomalies in what SB has been quoted as saying in the press.

1) A few weeks back when it was first rumoured that we had approached Lloyd Owusu, SB was asked by a supporter at a home game if it was true. Instead of just saying there was no truth in the rumour, SB said that if we were after Owusu he might as well get his own boots out of the cupboard.

2) Now quoted in the press admitting Lloyd Owusu has been approached, then saying we are in desperate need for a young, hungry striker?

I think there's not much wrong with our current squad but we DO need a different sort of option upfront to the Burnell/Sonner partnership, when in games it becomes obvious it isn't working[which is usually against a well drilled back line/competent centre halves] or that either gets suspended or injured.

I also think that we DO lack pace in the team which can make a big difference when playing the better sides. You only only have to look at the vast improvement that Mo Shariff added to our team,in the season he played for us[the difference in making the play-offs and not making them].One player who's fast makes a huge contribution and can change how the team works as a whole.

Charlie Mpi gave us a injection of pace when coming off the bench and because of this,Slough would often look a different team in an offensive way,for the remainder of games.

This is the element we should be looking to add to the squad.

It's no surprise we're missing Danny Murphy,as he offers us energy and speed, up and down the pitch. Our other full backs/wing back/wingers[on both sides] go up but are not good at coming back!

Harry Pritchard would have been a useful acquisition in this regard, for as much as I like Chris Herron,Chris currently seems a better impact substitute than a full match player. He never seems match fit but then again,Steve Bateman, never gives him a run of games to prove he can get match fit[surprised in this regard that he hasn't been loaned out] and to be a sharper player, than the one we currently view.

It appears Chris suffered with a lot of knee injuries, which cannot help his cause and as I've said before on this forum, he is technically as gifted a player,as any of the players we have in our squad, but sadly is an enigma in most of the games he plays.

Burgess,Sinclair and Swift are not blessed with pace either and nor are our forwards. So perhaps we should be looking for a speed merchant, whether they're currently warming the benches of teams in leagues above or taking a chance on a youngster from the leagues below, like Martin Stone did with Harry Pritchard!

I can't help feeling that we've missed the boat on some very good young talent because we don't want to take the risk on someone unproven,in case it doesn't work out, which is plain daft IMO.

I agree but it seems that SB isn't a big fan of players whose raw pace is their main attribute. Mo and Buchanan were very pacy (although both had lots of skill to boot) but neither got settled runs in the team in one positon. Mo was tried all over the place and was in and out of the team and Buchanan was either used left wing, striker or sub! Then you had Sealey who looked good up until he dislocated his shoulder but was regularly criticsed for his lack of defensive awareness. This season Mpi never really had a chance.

It seems without Murphy we are lackiing on this front. Any idea when he will be fit?
