Target man on the way?

According to Charles Watts of the Slough Express on Twitter, Steve Bateman has put in a seven day approach for a new striker but was staying tight lipped about the player's identity.

Watts made it known, though, that it is a player from a team in our division[Central].

Any guesses, fellow Forum scribes?

Ryan Bird of Burnham

Can't see Martin Stone letting one of his best players go, unless the player himself wants out. Also given that Burnell and Sonner are our first choice starters, whoever the player is, may not play every game given the Slough squad. So I would think the player will come from one of the lower sides currently in the division, someone like Bedfont or Leighton .

Saying those two teams, Bedfont have a striker called Reis Stanislaus who scored against us, in the last game we played them and Leighton have a very useful player called Ben Gallant, who's good on the floor and in the air.

Clearly a rival bid for Thierry Henry.

He's not in our division! but we're not in his league!

Firstly, I feel this is a good move, the pitches are getting heavier and as a result we may have to go long ball occassionally, whilst Burnell has carried out this role excellently, he needs to be the fox in the box so to speak!

Secondly, doubt it will be Ryan Bird as he is on contract and we would have to pay money to get him which to me is a bit silly as he would not necessarily be 1st choice with Burnell and Sonner being brilliant so far this season!

Lastly, I may be being pig headed but there haven't been many strikers who have caused us great problems barring the Bedworth front line and I doubt it would be one of their players! I thought Strutton at Chalfont was a winger but I may be wrong, the only player who I can think of, and I don't know his name, who is a target man that was physically strong and good on the ball was the number 9 at Northwood!

Whoever it is, he will only improve what we already have so this is good news!

we have come up against quite a few strikers who put themselves about a bit and are physically challenging for defenders.

you would assume it would be a team in mid to lower table. there are quite a few in the lesser teams that have got goals this season at the likes of Chertsey, Ashford and Northwood.

its only a 7 day approach so could come to nothing anyway of course though i would think Bateman would only talk about it if he thought there was good chance the signing would go through

With Swifty suspended for 3 matches and Danny Murphy turning his ankle again we have developed a bit of a problem down the left flank.

Maybe the idea of SB getting a new forward is to let Sean Sonner play down the left (which I think he did effectively when Swifty got sent off) which then leaves the new forward (if we sign him) to play along-side Danny Burnell.

We've still got Chris Herron, more than capable of filling Murphy and Swift's boots!!!

I think the idea of putting Sonner down the left CR (as opposed to Chris Heron) is because he has the engine/work-rate to get up and down the pitch. Yes, Chris Heron is more than capable (minus the work-rate of Sonner) but as I said with Swifty's suspension and Murphy's injury and the possibility of a new forward it MIGHT be in SB's mind to try Sean Sonner down the left hence giving the new forward a starting slot.

I like Chris Herron but he never seems match fit. He can change a game, though and is a very good impact substitute. There's no doubting his trickery and dribbling skills and knows where the net is. Currently I think due to his fitness,he suits 4-4-2 than 3-5-2.

Sean Sonner did a reasonable job on left in the Beaconsfield game and with a target man's possible arival,it gives us options. That's the beauty of a diverse squad. If Sean Sonner plays on the left wing,he needs a left back behind him.

Agree 3spirit.

Chris Heron has undoubted talent and has the ability to change games but I do question his fitness/dedication to become a permanent fixture in the starting 11.

There was no new target man at the Fleet game.Have we failed in our 7 day approach for the mystery striker. Has anyone any news on this front?
