DIVISION ONE

0-2 Cockfosters v Welwyn Garden City

4-0 Kings Langley v London Colney

Another anorak from another's Forum did a SSML double on Tuesday:

12.00 Kings Langley 4 London Colney 0, South Midlands League Division 1, Att: 130 (I thought nearer 180) Admission & Prog: £1

As already noted on here, a cracking win for Kings Langley over the runaway league leaders who looked anything but title material. Very friendly club, at one point phoning ahead for a carload of 'hoppers to reserve programmes at Berkhamsted. The ground has a certain charm, interesting "home-made" stand built into a large grass bank.

3.00 Cockfosters 0 Welwyn Garden City 2, South midlands League Division 1, Att: 65, Admission £4, Prog: £1

Fortunately and despite 10 minutes injury time at Kings Langley, I had enough time to find a parking space at Cockfosters. Plan A was to use the tube station car park opposite, but with Arsenal playing, all available spaces were long gone. Eventually snapped up a small space in the Bowling Club car park. Cockfosters seem to be a club struggling along with few fans and no opportunity to progress at their current ground. One plus was their excellent programme, well worth £1. The game was much like the dreadful fare at Bishops Cleeve the day before, but two late goals raised the excitement a little.

On a general note, having taken in two games in this league, I've rarely heard so much moaning. Constant shouts of "Ref! Ref!!" and regular questioning of decisions in both games.

PREMIER DIVISION

2-2 St Margaretsbury v Stotfold

DIVISION ONE

1-0 Wodson Park v St Albans City Reserves

Yet another SSML double from another's Forum:

Wodson Park (0) 1 v 0 (0) St Albans City Reserves, 1pm

(SSML Div 1)

Admission; £4/£2 including prog

Attendance; 70

Three games for me yesterday. The first was the 1pm k.o. at Ware FC for the game between ground sharers Wodson Park and St Albans City reserves. Unfortunately this game was as dull as the weather and was settled by a single goal in the 70th minute.

St Margaretsbury (1) 2 v 2 (0) Stotfold

(SSML Premier Division)

Admission; £6/£3, Programme; £1,

Attendance; 47

From Ware it was a short trip down the A10 my first visit of the season to St Margaretsbury for their SSML Premier Division game against Stotfold. For the visitors it was a frustrating day as they struggled to get a team together. For those who did put on the Stotfold shirt for the afternoon it was a good performance indeed. The conceeding of an early goal could have seen many teams fold. The visitors kept their heads and with Enders in goal proving difficult to beat, kept it at 1-0 at the break. Within five minutes of the restart Stotfold had made it all square and this inspired the team to a second half performance that made the game an entertaining spectacle. The home side regained the lead with eleven minutes left but it was Stotfold who came back again and claimed a point from the penalty spot three minutes from time.

PREMIER DIVISION

1-3 Hanwell Town v Oxhey Jets

A report on this one from another's Forum:

South Midlands League Prem : Hanwell Town 1 Oxhey Jets 3. Admission £5; Programme £1. Attendance 96 (hc)

October 21st 1993, I saw Hanwell Town lose 2-1 at home to Tower Hamlets in the Spartan League in front of 20 spectators. Reynolds Field is a little different these days. All I remembered from my previous visit was the White Building as that was probably all there was then. Now there's a seated stand to the right of the clubhouse and covered standing the length of the side behind the near goal - it's a really nice ground for this level and wouldn't look out of place at Step 4 these days.

On the pitch Hanwell are struggling and in the end were well beaten by a lively Oxhey side who could have had half a dozen but were thwarted by goalline clearances and the woodwork on a number of occasions.

Nice hot dogs on sale and - get this Tim - a fine bovril to accompany it at £2.50 for the combo

Lots of local hoppers unknown to us, including one chap who has to take the closely-contested title of scruffiest hopper - this despite wearing a shirt and tie. Any semblance of elegance was nullified by the (not new) soup stains down most of the front of the shirt and some of the back of the coat which is an unlikely achievement and who bore an uncanny resemblence to Slartibartfast. Richard Vernon's version, not Bill Nighy's. Obviously.

some quality finishes! pitch look atrocious, makes any sort of football other than in the clouds tough. It was always bad when I played there.

The pitch is much better than it has been at Coles park

Haringey Borough are fortunate that it has been such a mild autumn and winter with very little rain

Hardly likely to be a fiddle when New Bradwell cannot charge an admission price for their home games. Supporters are either charged for a programme or asked for a donation.

With reference to attendance figures, I have started a new topic.
