GRIMSBY AWAY SATURDAY 14TH JANUARY

Eastside Urchin

Recommended Posts

Myself and sean will go on the coach if one goes.

This will be a great trip, regardless of the result, so I don't think anyone would feel disappointed if things don't go our way. Personally I think if we have all players fit we have a chance.

If we play like we did on Tuesday against Salisbury then you will definitely have a chance, however I'm hoping we play like we did when we stuffed Stockport 7-0 only a couple of weeks ago.

I am gutted that I can;t make it, I have already organised our annual trip to watch Berwick Rangers for that day...although fair chance that'll be call off!

For a small group discount on trains (groups of three or more) you can get up to a third off.....just go to the homepage of eastcoast.co.uk and click on Special Offers, and then from the drop down, select the Big Savings for Small Groups....or, you can just click this link http://www.eastcoast...ve-pages/3plus/ and click on the purple 'Book Now Through This Link' rather than complete the travel details first (otherwise that won't give you the offer)

And you can save a little bit more via that offer if you have a gold card or one of those 16-25 rail cards...

Hornchurch will probably not play Grimsby again(unless we draw up there),berwick will still be there another day, just change the destination to grimsby, hey presto

Ha ha, I could sell this game much easier than the Berwick vs Stranrear one too, I run a trip there once a year, already got 8 booked up and paid for for Berwick, so sadly I can't back out....you never know, with a bit of luck they have a lot of snow in Berwick the week before and the game is called off a few days beforehand....if that does happen, then I will join up for this game.

I would expect that there will be a similar reduced price offer for this game. Our usual adult tickets for league games are £14/£16/£18 but for the First Round game v Darlington it was £10 in all areas of the ground. They also printed a voucher in the local paper which you could use to get a ticket for a fiver.

The attendance was 1527 (62 from Darlington), the 2nd highest of all 32 First Round games. I am hoping that we could be pushing 2000 for our game though as I'm sure you'll bring more that what Darlington did and with us only having one more home game after tomorrow (the Lincoln derby on New Years Day) hopefully the Grimsby/Cleethorpes public will be ready for some more action.

62 away fans!?? that is awful.

On average how many away fans do you normally get?

It varies quite a lot to be honest. Since we have been in the BSP the lowest following we've had is 11 from Eastbourne. We must have had at least ten sub 30 followings too over the 2 seasons. The largest following we've had is just under 700 from York but that could probably be beaten on New Years Day when we play Lincoln.

Most teams though bring between 100-200.

Latest away followings so far this season in the BSP. As you can see we are the 2nd lowest. Probably something to do with us being at the [****!!****] end of nowhere.

Thanks for that - i'm surprised by Luton's stats I thought Luton would be seen as a big pull by some teams

62,we take more than that to most away games

Darlo bought a few hundred down to us when we knocked them out the FA Cup but don't think they are well supported now

There's a lot more distance involved for BSP games though isn't there. Out of interest what is the furthest you play away from home in the league this season.

Last season we only had 2 games less than 100 miles away (York and Mansfield) although this season with Lincoln and Alfreton now in the BSP it's 4. We are usually well supported away from home and last season averaged around 400 but will be quite a bit less this season I reckon.

One of the main factors last season was the novelty value I think visiting new grounds (I added another 17 to my grounds visited list last season) but now 2nd time around it's beginning to wear off a bit. I think the only decent thing about now being a "non-league" team is how much more friendlier clubs are and it's great going to places where you can have a pre-match drink and a chat with oppostion fans in the club bar without being worried that some neanderthal will smack you for looking at them the wrong way.

We visited a lot of new grounds until the second season in the ryman premier. From then on it has been the odd new ground that attracts a larger away following. I can see where you are coming from with regards to longer trips to grounds you have already been at. This could be a reason for Eastbourne taking just 11 fans to you recently, whereas perhaps they took many more on their first trip. Is that common in the BSP?

It was last season when Eastbourne brought 11. It was the first time they had ever played at BP, so not realy. They were relegated last season so wont be visiting this season.
