Will we ever have a new ground and when?

Hi gang,

Sorry can't make the match tonight but will keep an eye out for the scores on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Night.Give the lads a cheer for me.

I didn't realise until this morning when I was speaking to another Urchin fan who posts on here (Remain nameless for the time being) that we don't actually play in Hornchurch but Upminster.

Would it not be better then, seeing as how are attendances are improving to move to a site in Hornchurch and possibly build and all seater stadium to meet League standards for when we get there.

He told me that a prime site would be where the old dolphin swimming pool is (I've not heard of it myself), this site is not being used and would be an excellent facility to build possibly a 16,500 seater stadium for out club to be proud of.

Anyway, I'm sure you have your thoughts, see you all Sat for the Cup game.

Nigel.

So urchin man, you're a sheep are you?

Wouldn't you prefer us to play in our own town instead of someone elses?

The fact is our ground is not up to scratch if we are to progress up the leagues.

What about building it in Harold Lodge Park, there's plenty of park space there.

ND are you for real ??? Yes attendances have gone up but a little bit premature to be building a brand new (Old Trafford size)stadium don't you think?

Yes we do play in Upminster but if my geography is correct only just as the river is the 'border' between Hornchurch and Upminster!!!

One step at a time please!

ND

Correct me if I am wrong, a few threads ago you want to find out how to get home from Hornchurch to Cranham after the game???

Today you have realised that we actually play in Upminster???

And you want us to move to the Dolphin site in Romford???

Are you by any chance an armchair Urchin fan like a Man Utd fan who has never been to the ground???

Answers on a postcard.

Although some of Nigel's comments may be perceived (big word hey kids?!) far out by some of you, it makes a change to the usual kid's chit-chat we get on here from the squeaky voiced children that sit in the Riverside. This site has taken a downward turn since it has been hijacked by a load of school kids and know-it-alls (or should I say, know-nothing-alls!). Half the posters on here could write all they know about football on the back of a postage stamp!

If it came down to it, I'd rather share a pint and talk footie with this Nigel D character, than share a Orange Fanta with you kids and talk GameBoys!

How about letting people have their say, no matter how far out it may be!

Well we try to live in Reality, Can we ever win the Premiership? WAKE UP! Why do we have to move ground just cos it is literally 2 yards from Hornchurch. How many games have u been to this season JFC and Nigel D? We aint armchair fans, i haven't missed one Hornchurch Game this season home and away including Friendlys, so whos the armchair fan now!

Very impressive kid, I just hope your homework hasn't suffered! So what, you've been to all the games so far this season, wow, I've been going to football matches long before you were a glint in milkman's eye!

I agree with Nigel D on the subject of a stadium, if we want to go places we need a stadium that can match it. I'm sure that your long association with the beautiful game would tell you that in its current form, our ground wouldn't be up to the football league standard. "Football League, a pipe dream?", ever heard of a team called Rushden & Diamonds, or Wimbledon, or Kidderminster or Boston? Appreciate they are probably before your time, but all are formerly non-league teams, all now playing in the football league! Even the most loyal and grown up supporters know that our ground, as it stands, wouldn't be good enough. Maybe if the poxy running track goes and we can develop all ends of the ground then maybe, or maybe we need to move. I don't know, maybe the Dolphin site is an option or Harrow Lodge Park or anywhere else in the local area, but howabout giving us your worldly knowledge big man?

I didn't say football league wasn't reality, thats possible, but the Premiership! The Dolphin In Romford? I just got called a sheep for saying why cant we stay in Upminster, make up your minds u 2. Brighton have a running track round the edge of their Stadium, there ground is at a good enough standard.

And whats your point about how many games you've been to, i can't help it if you're old and i'm only 17, and you've lived longer than me to go to games. I still know enough.

And how about Developing the stadium we're in now. All much simplar than moving grounds, whats the point of having a 6,000 seater stadium if only 1000 or so are gonna come to home games if we make the conference. Why dont we develop the ground until its not possible to develop it any more, and then that might be an idea to move ground or build a new one, when we are in a higher league.

So come on Old wise one, tell us more.........

I think we need to take things one step at a time. The Mr Bigs have set out a five year plan to turn this club around and take us to where they believe we should be. We have just entered year 3 and, lets face it, we're doing pretty damned well at the moment. In fact, we're one year ahead of ourselves! (Big hearty pat on backs.)

Everyone has got behind the club as a whole and I know those who work there have put in one heck of a lot of time and effort into the club and if things keep improving at the rate they currently are than yes, a larger capacity stadium will be needed but, as I wrote, one step at a time please (my little brain couldn't handle it otherwise!).

Ps. I'm always up for a drink... <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I think we're all just very excited about the prospect of where we can be in a few years' time and need some jelly and ice-cream (or something similar) to calm us all down.

It is an exciting time for us naughty Urchins though, isn't it!? <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

i have just read all the threads on this subject and i seriously think that our two "loyal Hornchurch fans",i.e JFC and NigelD are on a bit of a wind-up, any true fan would know why we play at "Upminster bridge" (the clues in the name boys) but if you haven't worked it out on your own yet it's the border between Hornchurch and Upminster and in our illustrious past we were once called (wait for it) "Upminster and Hornchurch" and you live in Cranham but wasn't sure were the Dolphin was and didn't know it's "Harrow Lodge Park" who's the boy that's not done his homework then, and as for not having a stadium up to standard, have you been to Billericay, Northwood or Hendon at all and ask yourself how they have "A" grading status, by the way not everyone that sits in the "Riverside" is under twelve........

feet on the floor you lot...and stop griping....I think the posts about premierships and new grounds are premature...lets keep up what we're doing and get behind the team we've got in the stadium we've got...

JFC...these kids have been coming on here a long time..they go to all the matches...home and away...they work for the club without pay and they've earned their right to an opinion...respect they've earned in my book...so less of the critisism...

welcome aboard but join in what we ARE doing...not what you would LIKE us to do....we have to be realistic...

onwards to Saturday urchins...big game for us all....can't wait....lets all get behind Georgies boys and cheer 'em on to a win...we wanna be in the hat on Monday...

I'll take the dog and duck at home in the next round... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
