Thanet District Council Cabinet meeting and leases for MFC development - update

Wellsie

Recommended Posts

It has been confirmed that this week's Thanet District Council Cabinet meeting will go ahead as planned but the two agenda items previously published, included the issue of leases for the Margate FC development, will not be discussed. As soon as we hear confirmation of when the lease situation will be discussed we will notify supporters.

According to the flying doctor...

I see Labour have decided to knock the football club application back to full council decision in February and have a site visit at Hartsdown at 2pm next Thursday.

What this changes, if anything, in regard to the public consultation I don't know as I'm sure that residents are quite aware of what the park looks like and where it is.

The last communication I had with the club gave a deadline of before Xmas to make a decision on the new leases so other than a 'Walk in the park' I really can't see what they are trying to achieve as the decision process is really quite clear now.

This is bloody ridiculous. Whatever colour the council is nothing gets done. Is this the price of a hung council or just the norm round here. There are business deadlines looming, hotels to be built and the council delay for 2 months. Why? They have all the information they need. Are they incapable of decision making. All they seem to do is argue amongst themselves. How can any business develop, expand, invest in this environment. Rant over.

Seems to be just the norm. We can build houses for people to buy, what with, where is the work coming from? I thought Leek and Moorlands District council were bad.

Well for the 1st time in my life I did not vote Conservative at the last local elections,Looks like I shall have to spoil my vote next time as they all seem to be as bad as one another.

I call for a vote of no confidence in the whole shower.

Where has this info come from? Seems completely ridiculous to defer it for yet another two months.

There's me thinking a labour leader would improve & speed matters up when in fact he has come in & put things back even further than the Tories did.

My vote for labour in the future is on "hold" & will probably be lost altogether now unless they can sort this out quicker than they are intending to do & I have sent a "stinking letter to both Iris Johnson & Mr Hart airing my disgust & my dissappointment in them

Any "official" on this please Wellsie? Any "official" update of any kind. Are Travelodge holding out & are they still on board etc etc. Are the contractors still on board too?. What's the crack please

Oh right, yes ,flying doctor,of course, how ignorant of me. I've been meaning to check him out. Will do that now. Cheers CE. (Why is this info then not on the TDC webpage as "official" or at least mentioned on there somewhere)

OK yes I see his mention of it.

Whilst very dismayed with the new leadership & his initial & possibly ill fated decision,I can't fault him on his decision to demote Mr Moores onto the backbenches at council. Now that IS something to rejoice about. Shame it didnt happen sooner when others were running the show.(What a nasty little man he is - Mr Moores that is) Mr Hart will have to wait his turn unless........................

Now, if only Mr Hart could see sense on the Margate FC issue & get it moving............ NOW!!!

Travellodge holding out how long can we expect them to wait. Surely if dreamland is really getting renovated a travellodge inside its grounds would be more viable.

As I said before I don't think the ground is a viable option hotel or not. Plus if it gets the go ahead it will open the door for everyone to nick a bit of public land for their own self gain.

Won't get out of the ground

It's already been given the go-ahead.It's the length of lease that is outstanding & no it wont give others the right to "nick" a piece of public land. That's not what the club are doing anyway.

The club aren't buying this piece of land outright. They won't "own it" outright but will have to keep that part of the park maintained in the same way that they have maintained its exsisting site for over 100 years thus far, impeccably might I add,so It won't belong to the club outright.

The club are merely asking to lease a minimum,I repeat minimum piece of the park over a longer period to enhance their future & at the same time allow a business the chance to make a profit along the way. That's what business try to do!

The land we talk of is now run-down & hardly used by anyone so the club & the Council, who will still be the landlords, will get rent for that land as well as have another part of that run-down park, not under the new lease application, updated,at the CLUBS expense have a win-win thing going for them here. They should be snapping our hands off to get this moving.

Perhaps they have an agenda for it "Tony".

They are in the act of increasing the area of woodland in Tivoli park. According to the guy planting they are going to cover the whole of Tivoli Park. If this is so and they look after it as well as they look after the present wood then, i am afraid it will be lost to the public and dog walkers for decades nay, generations to come.

You maybe right Graeme.

Another thing to this application is that there are no guarantees the club will prosper as would like to.The future cannot guarantee success even though we wish it, plan for it,expect it.

Travelodge or whoever comes in cannot guarantee success in a similar way. No business can.

The council however ARE guaranteed a regular income from this, are GUARANTEED to still be owners of the park as they would be throughout the lease period & even if things didn't go the way the club & Travelodge intended.

The people of Thanet are GUARANTEED to make good from this in more ways than one & all for a application to rent a mimiscule piece of the park.

I cannot for the life of me see why this has been continually held back by the council. As you say maybe they have their own agenda. The only ones who are taking gambles here are the club & Travelodge, not the council.

One of the things I have always felt is that the development, especially the hotel and bar, will generate extra light and people around so will make the area safer for people at night.

Yes Steve.

Hopefully the only people the lights will disturb are the Junkies and dealers I see going in and out of Tivoli woods as they go about their dirty business. Also the Junkies that use the park area by the 5's throwing their flotsam onto the pitch surrounds, putting the likes of the ground staff and 5's staff (who have to go out into the park to retrieve balls kicked over). The extra light can only help.

Maybe I am old Fashioned but I find it hard on nights like last Friday when in total after 12 hours work I only picked up 4 lots of people who did not reek of weed. Thank you ex Labour Home Secretary David Plunkett for your softly softly touch.

Just looked at the minutes of this meeting on TDC site (the 12th) & at the bottom of MFC Deveopment it says it has been put back to the next cabinet meeting & on checking when that is it shows the next cabinet meeting as being 5th January 2012 (was going to put 2020) :D ;) .

So,which is correct ? Is it scheduled for then,5th January or as the flying doctor says in February.I presume that one would be on the 2nd February as advertised on the TDC website.

I must be reading in the wrong place then in that case. On the links above it clearly says "deferred to next cabinet meeting".

I also notice in the minutes there it mentions Iris Johnson made a personal declaration concerning the club but it dosent say what she said.

Ref- tesco bazza's post.

Surely though if they allow this then what is stop say tescos, asda, sainsburys or any superstore the list goes on , to then apply to the council to also lease a small piece of the park so they can then put a store on the park? They have to be careful because they are setting a president here, this could also apply to any park in Thanet! Obviously MFC are going to gain out of this, how? Would you all still be for it if they decided to build it the other end of the park ?
