It's a little harsh criticising the midfield when they got by and large missed out ...

A fair point, but leads to the question of why, more often than not, it was decided to play over the top of them?

I have no idea.

I am struggling to remember a goal scored from a long throw.

I think that's the point exactly! And moving the white lines hasn't helped, and make things a little more congested.

I would say the lines have hardly been moved more than a couple of feet so I cannot imagine it was a tactical decision nor do I think it would cause any more congestion 30 yards away.

I accept we are lately hoofing the ball down the middle more and by passing our mid field. Maybe it will go back to passing the ball along the ground tomorrow. Let us hope so. That is why we turn up in hope each match.

All you have done all season is criticise the team, the tactics, the manager and players. You have not had a single positive post despite us being top of the table in December. You only come on here after a defeat or a poor performance. Are you really a supporter? If so support !

To be honest i would rather New Lodger left this site cause people like him make it impossible to have an even a mild discussion on this so called forum.

The fact that New Lodger has got on your back on this thread just shows how pathetic some people can be. You have thrown in a suggestion as to why the lines have been brought in and like many on Saturday I to felt that Juniors long throw was the reason. Agreed we haven't been overly successful with the throw yet, but it could be dangerous and why not use it. For New Lodger to then get on your back is pretty pathetic.

Anyone in attendance at Saturdays game, Lowestoft away and any game since the loss of knight and Semi would agree that we have been playing a far more direct, 'hoof' approach compared to the flowing football we played at the likes on Wingate earlier in the season. To get on someones back for stating the obvious is not needed.

I would however add that I to would rather see passing, flowing football but we cant always have it and to be fair sitting top of the tree it aint alll bad.

I think Ontheisdelines does have a negative slant, but that is just his style of forum posting,

New Lodger on the other hand is a very positive type. his glass is alwas at least half full.

It takes allsorts, and both their contributions are welcome, I may, and often don't, agree with what is written on here, and so what if I agree or not? If people want to dissagree with me, I don't mind. but it wouldn't stop me posting

I hope OTS changes his/her mind and continues to contribute.

But we must all remember that if we comment, then others have the right to disagree and challenge our view if they want to..

We are still top of the league arn't we?

The white lines? I heard it was because the grounsman has the hump because of a wage cut so he narrowed the pitch to reduce the amount of work he had to do!.

I have been as critical as the next man on this forum where performances merited it, my beef with onthesidelines was that's all he did and never offered any praise. You say we have not played any flowing football since the loss of Knight and Semi, have you forgotten the performances at Horsham and Cray ? So how is that stating the obvious? Interestingly Knight and Semi have hardly set the world alight with their flowing football since they left. Maidenhead have yet to score and Knight was warming the bench at East Thurrock before getting a big move to Aveley.

If you thought Horsham away was flowing football then I must have been at the wrong game. We played against a shocking team and we could have won 10 nil, that was not flowing football it was direct but worked against a very poor team at this level. No complaints great result. With regards to Cray Wanderers, that was not flowing football, it was once again direct football against a strong defensive team of 10 men, again though great result. These two performances were no where near the pass and move football we were spoilt with earlier this season but end of the day though we got 6 points and no complaints from me. I love this club and if we scored every goal from a direct kick from our keeper, a long throw or corner into the box I wouldn't give a toss, as long as we won.

My comments were around the style of football and as your best pal pointed out, we have recently moved away from pass and move and back to direct lumping up the field, which against some teams will work, but against other more organised teams (Margate, Lowestoft just recently) it hasn't and wont work.

The movement and composure on the ball that both Knight and Semi had for ourselves allowed our team to pass and move as they both created space and worked hard, without them I do think we have a gaping hole in midfield and lack of flair up front, both of which leads to a more direct style of football. Yes both players haven't set the world alight but a single player going into a poor team, which both East thurrock and Maidenhead are isn't going to change the whole team dynamics at this level of football so cut them a little bit of slack. Lets be honest it would take a lot to light up that Maidenhead team, appalling football and lets be fair Semi isn't really built for wrestling and as for Knight what a waste. He is a quality player, with proven finishing ability but clearly has a rather large chip on his shoulder and from what i have heard sounds as if he would be better playing a solo sport rather than one involving teammates.

I did think we played flowing football against Horsham and Cray but hey why compliment the team when you can state that against Horsham we could have won by ten but of course they were shocking (not how good we were) this same shocking Horsham team recently lost just 1-0 at Lowestoft and to a single goal at Canvey in the 93rd minute on Saturday and of course it was against 10 at Cray. In both games we could have doubled our tally, not bad for hoof football but as you say it was because of how poor they were.

I thought both Knight and Semakula were both very good players, but both dumped us and moved on. Rather than sing their praises I would sooner save that for the players that are still here.

For heavens sake we are top of the league and have not just crept into the top half of the table.

Still as you said "it's not all bad"

So after all that fun, does anyone know the reason the pitch was brought in a yard each side (it is exactly a yard as the new line starts from the edge of the old corner area, which is 1 yard from the sideline).

If the trial was considered a failure, can it be put back again tonight?

I think it's to accommodate Hornchurch's Physio after his Christmas dinner.

New Lodger I couldn't care less if we hoofed the ball the whole game, its the result that counts. I haven't criticised just stated what I have seen on the pitch in last few games. If that is seen as criticism then so be it, but we all see games through our own eyes and have our own views, not just yours.

Anyway I think they bought the pitch in to allow for the building of a new 2,000 covered terrace stand to go in alongside the pitch opposite the dugouts, to accomodate the return of Chelmsford city and their following army of fans as they are leaving Melbourne to ground share at a proper ground again!
