Chalfont SP v Rebels

Half time 1-1. Horrible bobbly pitch. Alex Brown header puts Rebels 1-0 up and csp scored with their only effort on target after 40 mins. Slough on top but need to make possession count. Did I mention it was a crap pitch that doesn't allow any football whatsoever?!

This result has been coming to some extent. Sloppy against Ashford and against Bedfont but in those games we scored enough to dig ourselves out of it. In this one we had the chances to do the same but were desperately wasteful in front of goal. Ben Abbey missed a one on one in the first half then Ollie Burgess missed two sitters in the second. The really annoying thing is they were bloody awful.

We were in complete control up until the equaliser and then in my opinion the game turned when we lost Ben Abbey as we only had 1 striker on the pitch! In the 2nd half we got what we deserved I'm afraid!

If I'm honest, we were poor and should be beating teams like Chalfont! What worried me today, yet again, we didn't trouble the opposition keeper!

We are missing the defensive qualities of Danny Murphy big time, 2nd week in succession we've conceded a goal as a result of lazy defensive play by the left wing back!

When the 2nd goal went in, we carried on playing plan A, we need a 4th striker!

We're still in the mix and hopefully this will spur us on to another unbeaten run!

The players have been brilliant so far this season and we are top on merit, we won't win every game, it's just so frustrating sometimes!

Glad to see Seeby back, isn't it sods law that Abbey goes off injured when Burnell is suspended and then seeing Tony Mendy in the stand! Burgess was running the show with Coyne up until Abbey got injured and then when he went up front we lost the strangle hold!

We'll bounce back, 9 points out of 9 please boys to end 2011!

it was all looking really good at 1-0 up but yes the injury to Abbey forcing us to move Burgess up front and then letting in a goal right on half time seemed to disrupt us far more than it probably should have

unfortunately Burgess missed 1 golden chance which would have changed the game in our favour completely but what can you do

in many ways it was little different to most recent games particularly away ones. we had a decent amount of the ball but failed to test the keeper anywhere near as much as we should have

defeat brings a bit more reality to the situation and we just gotta make sure we spring back and get a positive result in the next games. lets not let this turn into a run of bad results

Not only bobbly but more undulations than a roller coaster.

On top until Bennis got injured and then payed the penalty for not having a striker on the bench and having to put Ollie Burgess up front.

Their first goal resulted from Warro punching the ball which landed just outside the area and no one picking up a Chalfont player who had time to have a picnic before scoring.

Second half Chalfont had the impetous with them and we were on the back foot for a while but still managed to create two great chances for Ollie Burgess who failed to do the easy bit and just hit the target.

Unfortunately Chalfonts second goal was another defensive error. The Chalfont player was not in a dangerous position in the far right corner but was allowed to get passed his marker to create the second and decisive goal.

Anyone for a fourth striker?

4th striker without a doubt, Abbey's injury was a hamstring problem! I hope we don't go into the next 2 massive games against Bedworth and Beaconsfield with just Sonner and Burnell available, yes the current 3 have done excellently well but we do need another option!

i think our biggest problem today is that before we left the dressing room we believed that we had the game won, i'm afraid boys it don't work like that, the teams in this division are all capable and if you do not treat the all with respect they are going to punish you,and that is what happened today the best team won, today was lost on attitude and that is what is needed to be worked on we have all the skills it's just our attitude that sometimes lets us down

Let's face it, this has been coming. The defence has been good but midfield and forwards have been misfiring for many games now and we've scraped by on last minute or doubtful penalties, spectacular wondergoals or just plain doggedness. But sooner or later those had to fail us and yesterday they did. These things happen, hopefully not too often. It may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. At least all of our bookings were for good honest fouls and not for mouthing off.

There is no doubt that SB is a good manager but like most of us he has a blindspot and I think that his is the forward line. He just takes so long to admit when we are short, even though the rest of us can see it.

In his first season with us we started light up front but SB said he was happy with his squad, when we could all see that we could not score. Eventually he saw the light and we signed Elliott Buchanan and we made the play offs.

In his second season we again started light up front and we went through the same scenario of SB denying a problem. Eventually he agreed with us and signed Danny Burnell, and we made the play offs.

This season we appeared to have cured the problem but no - it's re-appeared again. We are again light up front and SB is denying there's a problem. Instead of a back up forward we sign Chris Seeby, a good player but we don't need another defender/midfielder - we've got lots already.

Burgess showed yesterday that he's not a forward - but he's not meant to be. Abbey is 34 years old and can only surely have ever been envisaged as back-up, not a front line striker. I know forwards are hard to find, but when i speak to other supporters who are more knowledgeable than I on club goings-on, I'm told that SB always has lots of players enquiring about playing at Slough. Surely one of them must be a half decent forward.

No doubt we'll sign a forward soon and resume our charge towards the title, but why do we go through this every season. It just ain't neccessary.

Looking at the squad we have 1 goal keeper (not sure if Dennison is still around, judging by the press I'd imagine he isn't!!!), 7 defenders but 3 of those are basically playing in midfield positions, 10 midfielders and 3 strikers!!!

In my opinion, we are over stacked heavily in midfield and something may have to give in that department, considering that Murphy, Perkins and Seeby will all fill the midfield positions more often than the back 3 as Brown, NBH and Woozley are undoubtedly the first choice 3 at the moment!

We do need another striker sooner rather than later!
