Has Cameron F'd us in the A?

Recommended Posts

The French and the Germans seem to be running the show now, have the Tory coalition Government done enough to maintain a position of influence within Europe since "winning" the General Election and has Cameron's use of the "A Bomb" (the Veto) when it had no effect whatsoever just made us the lepers of Europe?

Apart from Malta and possibly Greece , I don't think we are liked or respected much in Europe anyway. Cameron has probably p1ssed off UKIP more than anyone, because he has stolen their thunder, and reduced their reliance on tactical voting.

Best thing 'Call Me Dave' has done since taking power.

He's the only one thats stood up to the German/French two-faced bullies. Just remember what the Germans did up until 1945, and the French just laid down and gave up.

Hopefully, Big Dave will now do the decent thing, call a referendum and get us out of that corrupt money grabbing institution for once and for all !!

Well JR, someone had to fall into the trap of mentioning long ago history, can't seem to imagine its relevance but it might as well have been you.

So what did your hero Big Dave (and what's Big about him lol?) actually achieve? Has his veto prevented 26 other countries adopting the treaty? Isn't a veto supposed to stop a treaty?

I think we all owe a huge vote of thanks to David Cameron, he played a blinder in Brussels on Friday, reminiscent of Beckham for England against Greece at Old Trafford, to veto the EU treaty purely designed and manipulated to save the dead in the water EURO

Well, johnny foreigner has really done for himself now. The Eurozone is totally isolated as a result of our leader standing up for the right of our finance industry to continue without unwelcome regulation. Lets see how all those europeans get on by themselves in the big cold world out there.

As for reference to the 1940s, it's different 70 years later. You know very well, the Russians and the Americans will jump in to stand by us a lot earlier than back then - they don't want their bankers called to heel any more than we do.

It reminded me a lot of the film 'Love Actually' where the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant, stood up to the US President against all expectation, that's exactly what David Cameron did in Brussels on Friday and has gone up in everyone's estimation as a result

You're doing it again! He hasn't gone up in everyone's estimation. He has gone up in some people's estimation, but not in others.

There are infinite shades of grey between black and white - try seeing things in grey now and then!

Horace - Has Cameron gone up in your estimation out of interest, would Tony Blair or Gordon Brown have done what he did on Friday

I would have thought that its the UK that now finds itself in a state of isolation, and certainly not the Eurozone countries, and IMO anyone that thinks that Cameron defending the right of our financial sector to "continue without unwelcome regulation" is either a banker, or totally bonkers.

On balance I would prefer to hand over more powers to Brussels because they usually promote more progressive social policies than our current , or previous governments.

No he hasn't - he was not representing the view of the British people so much the interests of the City, which I presume made him the rich man he is (have never actually researched where the family fortune came from, but I bet it wasn't from manufacturing or inventing anything). And no, I don't believe either of the above mentioned former Prime Ministers would have used the veto.

Did you miss BlackDog's use of irony Alan?

I agree with you both as well as Horace.

I'm old enough and long enough in the tooth to have had a vote in the original referendum, and obviously voted NO.

Incidently, the only reason Mr.Sarkasticky and Mrs Murky are so up in arms over our veto, is because they were hoping to rely on 'Good Old GB', and bleed us for a few more trillion.

Incidently, wife and I were enjoying a pleasant lunch in Horsham the other day and bumped into a couple of 'senior-citizens' from Eire, who both admitted to be Catholic. They were adament that the worst thing their Country had done was to join the Euro, and would be more than happy to join with GB and also use the £ as part of their currency.

Incidently, I see Eire's VAT rate will soon be, or maybe is by now 24% !!!

Makes yer fink, dunnit ??

Big JR - what has remembering voting in the original referendum got to do with 1945 lol?

By coincidence I lived near Horsham for many years, where did you eat out?

When we travel to shop in Horsham, the Missus and I use the very good Wetherspoons in the town for lunch.

I had a dread you were going to say Wetherspoons! Closed briefly 3 years ago after a customer found the back end plus tail of a mouse in their meat pie. Theres a joke in there somewhere but environmental health didn't see it.

A government sticking up for it's financial sector, whatever next!!!

Well, I'm not sure the gesture will be returned.

The financial industry, with the help of weak government regulation on both sides of the Atlantic, is the reason for our current woes, isn't it? And those who caused the trouble, senior bankers and their tame regulators, have just walked away from the mess with huge personal profits. I don't want my government sticking up for people like that or their present successors who seem to want to follow the same path.
