The Big Match: Chalfont St. Peter v Slough Town

Hi guys,

Wycombe fan 'in peace' here. I should be off to watch you in action at Chalfont St. Peter tomorrow. I've been to a few non-league games this season, including your 2-1 victory over Woodford United.

I thought I'd let you know about a little blog I've written musing about contrasting fan attitudes in the professional and non-league game, in addition to a few pieces on yourselves and CSP.

The linky is here: http://bit.ly/uhqxCo

I haven't come on here to merely spam and self-promote; I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on tomorrow and the rest of the season. By all accounts, you haven't been turning in sparkling displays but you have a very solid-base at the back and a few strikers capable of sticking the ball in the back of the net, combined with a hard-working midfield. Sounds the perfect recipe for success?!

Cheers for the comments. I'm a Wycombe fan living in GX, who do you think I'll be supporting? ;)

No, no, as written I try to stay neutral...Just want to see a good game. Got plenty of links with Slough through family (I believe a relative played for the Rebels in the early part of the last century), got family in Alpha St. etc so there's the tiniest of soft spots for you guys and an interest in the local non-league scene but that's all. :P

I think it'll be scarves and gloves weather tomorrow. I'd imagine there will be 50-100 Rebels there. I see some of you are off to the White Hart pre-match: good choice! Hopefully there won't be any injuries on what's usually a hard and bumpy surface.

Yes indeed, Alpha St. South to be exact. It's a travesty that they knocked The Pickled Newt (was the Floral Arms too or am I thinking of somewhere else?) down on the corner further up. Apparently it was a listed building with a rather interesting past (landlady encouraging boys from Eton College to stay the night so the story goes).

Are you referring to the Alpha Arms regarding your pre-match refreshment? Never been in but apparently there's a footy team run from there (Alpha Arms XI). From the outside, it doesn't look like 11 blokes would fit in the place! :D

I'll be covertly undercover tomorrow and without my WWFC scarf but if an anti-Wycombe barrage did begin, I doubt I'd get much support from my CSP counterparts!

BR meant to say the Hershel Arms.

No it is the Alpha Arms!

Mr.Wycombe, the pub you are refering to is the Floral Arms, which was knocked down in true Slough history wrecking style and where there has been a gaping hole ever since. Before it was knocked down, was West African pub with lots of load music and jerk chicken which my dad used to stumble in ocassionally. Surprise they didn't try and put another office block in its place.

The Alpha used to be the smallest pub in Slough (and literally my dads front room) but massive now since the refurb.
