will this have an effect on the top 3 in div 1?

Only if they get relegated along with another Team that is in the C.C.L. catchment area, then only 2 teams will be promoted,I believe.

You certainly don't want the bottom 3 in the Southern League Central to be Bedfont Town, North Greenford & Fleet Town - any combination of those 3 could be CCL bound if they finish in bottom 2. But as Krooner points out, Step 4 teams are often reprieved by teams dropping out at higher levels

Maybe to Combined Counties but there's a few demotions around us. Crowborough went down to Sussex league from Rymans last year, Bracknell were in Southern and are now propping up the Hellenic. Newport IOW were a Southern league side but r now in the wessex so it happens,,,Nothing is certain..

There's a bit more to it than that, Smudge. The club were charged with numerous breaches of FA rules relating to payments made to players during the 2009-10 season, when an expensively assembled squad won the division in which the club now plays. At the time, the club was owned by Mazhar Majeed, who, of course is currently a guest of Her Majesty, having been found guilty of organising spot-fixing during a Test Match. Where he found the money to pay his title-winning squad is unknown...

While the people running the club at present were not doing so during this season, it is the club, rather than these individuals, who have been found guilty of breaching the rules and there are lots of precedents for this. Spurs started their first season under Sugar and Venables on minus points because of the actions of the board that had gone before the "dream team" and Swindon Town were initially relegated to Division Three (later reduced on appeal to being denied promotion to the old Division One) for breaching the rules on player payments. More recently, Boston United were deducted four points from their total in their first season in the Football League for falsifying player contracts - having won the Conference on goal difference from Dagenham & Redbridge.

I think you should stop criticising The FA for punishing Croydon Athletic and instead rail against the culture of "little brown envelopes" in football. The reason the club got deducted 10 points and a heavy fine is because somebody cheated. The fact that individual got sent to prison is irrelevant, clubs who did things properly missed out on promotion because CAFC attracted high-calibre players by paying them more than they told the authorities (ie, not just The FA but HMRC too).

The club is presently "owned" by Mr Majeed's sister-in-law, who has offered no indication that she wishes to sell it. However, she also seems unwilling (or unable) to pay its bills and I understand the electricity at the ground has been disconnected. Furthermore, the club has called off the scheduled match at Ramgate because they can't raise a team. This may mean that the club is expelled from the League.

No-one wants to see a football club die, but Croydon Athletic have always been a bit of an odd entity. They were a merger of Wandsworth & Norwood FCs (two towns not exactly next to each other) and rose quickly through the old London Spartan League, largely thanks to the input of Keith Tuckey, their late Chairman. After he passed away, former Secretary Dean Fisher took the Chair and has himself spent time in jail having stolen from his employer (and pretending he had Cancer into the bargain) to bankroll the club and his own lifestyle.

After Mr Fisher's reign came to an end, Mr Majeed came on the scene. To coin a phrase: to have one dodgy owner is unfortunate, to have two in a row looks like carelessness.

While I have some sympathy for the club stalwarts who have attempted to pick up the pieces, I think The FA have had little choice but to act on the breaches of rules.

Looking bleak for The Rams! :(

If The Rams fold, would their supporters go on to support Croydon FC I ask being another local club in the vacinity ?

What do you think Smudgeyboy ? Could Croydon take over Croydon Athletic or even amalgamate ?

Interesting point that! :chestram2:

Nice Guy,having spent 6 Great years down at Croydon Athletic in the Keith Tuckey Era,where I made very many good friends, that I still see today. Many of their so called supporters only jumped on the bandwagon when Mazar Majeed arrived on the scene, with his lavish plans. The hardy Croydon supporters still refer to them as Wandsworth and Norwood, and will do till the day they die.Croydon F.C. were a biggish Club with decent support in Ken Jarvie's days, but when he departed after spending loads of money that was technically not his,the support disappeared as fast as it had came, luckily Dixon Gill saved the day.I have my own thoughts regards Croydon Athletic and Croydon,Committee Members they just let 1 person rule the finances, and they went along for the ride.No checks were in place to see what the Financial Situation was, therein lies the problem,as for Beano's comments above, you forgot the Danish Consortium who took over the Club for a while then went Bankrupt, and sadly David le Cluse Chairman who took his own life.SAD DAYS INDEED.
