PREMIER DIVISION

2-1 AFC Dunstable v Royston Town

Was this the shock result of the season so far:

http://www.afcdunsta...m_id=9&n_id=199

Bit disrespectful to our fine team Karren, we are 3rd in the league, turned over all the top 5 teams (and Hanwell 6-nil B) ), also put six past a couple of other teams, and are in a rich vein of form. Maybe what you mean is that we have no budget, came up from div 1 as runners up, and nobody considered us a top 3 team?

Any grovelling apology will be accepted, take your time, in the next hour will be fine! :)

Smeelynuts it was your mate Rhodes post that claimed it was a shock not Karens.....you may owe her an apology

It is hard to get AFC admirers nowadays so you are excused Winslow Boy. Unlike the other two, Waldorf and Statler, who were less kind, proper muppets they are!. :D

Lol phew!!! I'd say the club is well liked and appreciated certainly by people I've come across (as an actor said to the bishop) play good football etc.. Not many afc haters on here except one fairly vocal DTFC fan who hasn't posted since before you recent game haha.

Good spot, I also noticed that and the Dunstable so called "regiment" have been awfully quiet in recent weeks, especially that Scotty - think it was because they got attacked by a load of our under 14 & 13's at the end of the game who managed to take over the West Bank end, normally occupied by the Regiment!

AFC deserved their win on Saturday - their team spirit and will to win was fantastic - not sure how far this will ultimately take them but you can see how they raise their game against the better footballing teams and stop tehm playing. Royston should have killed them off more than once in the first half. It was arguably the worst performance of season from the Crows (Vase Hangover?) who kept giving the ball away like a poor youth team. AFC second goal was offside though.

You can tell from Royston Town's match report that they felt they deserved at least a point at Creasey Park on Saturday:

I can imagine tea cups were smashing against the away dressing room wall left right and centre after the game, I pity Amersham Town tomorrow night who will suffer a backlash in the South Midlands Senior Cup

Fair play Latchy, we got the promotion on the last day of the season last year as runners up, so beating Dunstable and yourselves is way above expectation, particularly because we do not operate a budget. You hit the nail on the head, we build our side on team spirit with the best of the local boys who play footy togther but also socialise together We also felt that Royston are a better all around team than Dunstable Town and will still win the league comfortably. Your manager was gracious in defeat and acknowledged you were restricted in clear cut scoring opportunities, You also have the advantage over Dunstable in having majority home fixtures, teams will not like travelling to Royston in the depths of winter, particularly if it is mid-week.Good luck to you.

Our skippers reaction

http://www.sportsshots.org.uk/Latest_News.htm

Aston must be licking their lips looking at our poor form since exiting the vase. I believe they have a 7 dayer in for one of ours but I'm told he is staying. I expect there will be a decent crowd for what will be a tense (on our part) game.

From another's Forum

HERTS SENIOR CENTENARY TROPHY QUARTER FINAL WELWYN GARDEN CITY 0 KINGS LANGLEY 5

Attendance-42 (many more stayed in the bar or viewed the game from the steps to the bar) Admission-£5 inc excellent programme

This game was in theory between two sides from the same division of the South Midlands League. However it was the visitors who appeared to come from a much higher level as they completely dominated the game from start to finish. In fact if they had taken all their decent chances the score could easily have reached double figures. The home defence were totally inept and seemed to have no idea how to mark any of the opposition forwards. This was compounded by the home number 7 being sent off before the interval for 2 bookable offences. Yet it was an enjoyable game to watch helped in some way by the ineptitude of the nearside linesman who struugled to come to terms with the pace of the visiting forwards and never seemed to be in line with the play. WGC is an established ground with seated cover on the nearside and a small amount of standing cover on the far side. The pitch was completely railed/fenced off.

Pre-match refreshments were taken at the Swan in Wheathampstead and the Cricketers at Redbourn. Post-match analysis was completed at the Goat in St Albans and the Compass in Milton Malsor.
