Surrey Premier Cup - AFC Wimbledon Reserves 2-1 Warlingham

Interesting start to the game, as the Wars keeper saw red after just 45 seconds as he handled the ball outside the box. Ref (fresh from Cove v Croydon) didn't hesitate to flourish the red, leaving Neavsey to put on the yellow jersey and keeper's gloves. Not much else happened first half, but Neavsey looked assured in goal although rarely troubled by the very young Dons side.

Second half was more entertaining, Dons taking the lead with a lovely finish that Neavsey had no chance with. Difficult to tell Wars had ten men though as they came more and more into the game. Dias came on as sub and caused all sorts of problems with his pace and long throws, even Terry Brown commented as to why he hadn't started. Wars finally equalised via a scrambled goal following a long throw, but then immediately conceded again. Neavsey came up in the last minute to take a free kick, which bounced off the post, but Dons held out to go into the next round.

TRS you being a AFC fan, if AFC put out their reserves for the Surrey Premier Cup, I take it then that they put out some 1st team players returning from injury/suspension and mostly 1st team squad in the Surrey Senior Cup as their last game against Tooting is shown on AFC 1st team fixtures ?...................or a mixture of the above and the better reserve team players ?......Interesting as I am sure their 1st team will not be risked in playing thats for sure !

I wouldnt say any of last nights players were first team players, if we had 11 players would of been a different game I believe. They were a quick young side and moved the ball well around the pitch I thought there best player was the blonde lad who scored. They lacked quality up top. Good to see Gilsey back playing!

Good luck to them in the next round.

Last night's team was a very young one, could call them the reserve reserves maybe :)

I believe the more usual reserves/development squad had a game this afternoon. It was a good test for the youngsters against an organised and robust Wars side, albeit one that played with ten men for 89 minutes. You're right about the Senior Cups, there's usually a sprinkling of fringe and recovering first teamers as was the case against Tooting (Surrey) & Wingate & Finchley (London) in the last couple of weeks.

Video up later!
