ground development

Tesco Bazza

From a personal point of view the present mob have a lot to learn about how to be councillors and should remember who pays their extremely high allowances and expenses (allowances £600,000 PER year plus expenses on top)

They are relying solely on the Turner Centre to save Margate using public funds and only seem to be able to think of one thing at a time!!!!

They should get their @rse into gear allow the ground leases, kick the current owners of Dreamland out and allow the Trust a free hand and let Tesco loose on the current joke of Arlington House site which is mainly used as a battleground for groups of foreigners wishing to continue their previous nationalistic battles.

Would like to have a town people enjoy visiting and enjoy living in. Half an hour looking around the publically funded Turner Centre is not enough to get people spending the £30 a head KCC thought would be brought to the local community.

And in fairness the issue of TDC as planning authority and landlord is also a major contributory factor here. It's also a very different planning situation compared to Dartford. And whether as supporters we like it or not, the local residents do have a right to have their say, just as we all would if someone was planning to erect something we didn't like right next door to us. I'd suggest it is never as straight forward as it appears particularly where we have a strong emotional attachment to a particular outcome.

I cannot understand TDC's constant resistance to change and progress in Thanet. The football club for one, Manston for another.

If the council listened to what the majority of my fellow Thanetians wanted then things would get done.

Tesco at Arlington House, Manston and the football club all have the potential to directly and indirectly create jobs. I sometimes wonder if TDC have any ambition for Thanet at all. If they don't starting listening to the majority of us then I see Thanet becoming one big benefits island with no money or prospects.

if you or they in this case don't move with the times you/they get left behind and it's not the fault of this lot now at TDC it's been eroding away for years, look at Margate in general (no disrespect to residents) but it's dire in some areas but it's never to late to turn things around and the Turner Centre is a start so lets hope those in charge can use this as a kick start and as mentioned by Paul H see the benefits in improvements in the area itself including the football ground, Dreamland etc etc etc. Investment does cost but the rewards for the local community and people comming to the area is priceless....

The point about the above is that Tescos and the football club are not costing the council anything!!

but maybe the council feel they wont be 'getting' anything out of the above either...not projects they can claim to have had a hand in so they don't get the glory (or direct payments) from either project....

But you have to remember that most people in Thanet don't care about the football club. Clearly the officers received enough anti comments from protesters so they couldn't ignore them.

Good FA cup runs in the past and promotion to the conference put this run down town on the map. Gates of 1500 on a regular basis at HDP.

The fact is that football clubs cannot run without some sort of commercial backing. Most that do get into massive debt. We were there were we not! Plus we cannot progress without a better ground.

I lived in All Saints Avenue for most of my childhood. Played golf on the pitch and putt and football most days in the park. These days its a run down mess, the golf has gone and the park is one big vandalised mess.

If MFC want to improve their prospects ie the ground and commercial aspect then so be it.

The only thing most of these locals care about is having somewhere to walk their dogs and let them mess.

The all weather pitch will not take up much more of the park and will give local youth football clubs somewhere to train during the winter. Training outside the old HDP was awful. I've used Minster's all weather pitch and it is an excellent facility that is fully booked 7 days a week.

On another note and off topic, Manston is Thanets main asset. Yet TDC listen to those who bought houses on a flight path in fear of losing votes. Its expansion should be encouraged before Boris gets his stupid island on a flood plain.

Sorry guys rant over. I've got a real bee in my bonnet over these things........

Kindest regards to you all.

Just got this email from TDC......................................................

Meeting on 12 December

The Cabinet Leader has given notice that the Extraordinary Cabinet, fixed for 12 December, will continue as planned.

However, the Leader has made it clear that the new administration will not be in a position to make decisions in relation to the 2012/13 draft budget, the proposed lease extension to Margate Football Club

These items will be deferred to a future Cabinet meeting.

More delays then!!

Well done Paul. The evening before a big game.Would have been nice to keep this quiet until after the match but I suppose as it's on the TDC site now it was only a matter of time before someone mentioned it.Just wish it was AFTER tomorrows game that's all. Moneys definately on Billericay now ! ANY result from our lads would be even greater now then.Let's hope the players go out there now with "extra" will to win even if it's just to annoy the council & make them see what an asset this club can be at the heart of the community & what their delaying tactics are preventing from doing for this run-down town

p.s Paul, I know you didnt intentionally mean any harm & despite this further mini setback maybe it won't have done any.

COME ON MARGATE go to Billericay on Saturday & win there for us,the ever patient supporters, please!

I would say this was a plus point but who knows.Councillors are very good at changing their tune when it suits.Overall though I think this COULD BE a plus point, albeit maybe only a minor one.

I don't really think you can say this makes any difference to the players. Players come and go, after all. As for the delay, not entirely surprising given all the upheaval at TDC.
