FA Vase Fourth Round

Recommended Posts

If memory serves me correct Selby were the first SML side to reach the Fourth Round of the FA Vase back in 1986/87. They lost to a side from somewhere on the South Coast I believe. My first season involved in South Midlands football.

Were Hoddesdon in the SSML when they won it in 1975?

I think that the original Berkhamsted Town actually made the Final in 2000-01! They were, of course, a Ryman League side, not SSML. The current club is, allegedly, a different club.

Hoddesdon Town have the best SSML bragging rights in my opinion - they won the inaugural FA Vase whilst members of the Spartan League.

Berkhamsted's record as a SSML club is

2010-11 Second Qualifying Round (as a SSML Division One club)

2011-12 Second Qualifying Round (as a SSML Premier Division club)

Berkhamsted Town did reach the final in 2000-01 but they were members of the Isthmian League at the time.

It's easy to sit behind your computer and say "these weren't very hard games" etc - but if you have actually seen anyone play from the Essex League or the Sussex then your "opinion" might have some more credibility

No4 – Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t being disrespectful to the Essex Senior League but I’ve heard a lot of people say that it isn’t the best Step 5 division in the Country and teams have gone straight into it from Step 7 in the past, bypassing Step 6, which is proof in the pudding isn’t it

But it is kind of disrespectful to the Essex senior league when you haven't been to watch any of the sides play. Honestly - when was the last time you watched a team from the ESL play?

Also - what about the Sussex League? Lancing beat "high flying" Guilford City in the 2nd round, but then you make them out to be an "easy" draw for us.

Fact.... Rhodes is a (censored)

And past history with regards SSML sides, what they achieved let no one take that away from them....whichever side flys the flag for our league we should honour and respect....but then we come back to Rhodes.

As a side note, Teams can only play who is drawn against them. Whether the opposition are high flying in their own league or not, you've still got to beat them. As you'll well know Rhodes, anything can happen in a knockout competition. Well done to Ampthill and Royston for progressing and good luck for the next round.

Didn't Chalfont have a couple of good runs?

2008/09 saw Chalfont St Peter reach the semi-finals (losing on penalties to Glossop North End) but once again they were a SSML Premier Division side. Another Premier side to do well are of course Hillingdon Borough, who reached the final in 2005-06 losing to Nantwich Town.
