The FA wouldn't have stopped him - they abolished Rule 34 years ago. But ManU makes more money by keeping on going and there are more people with a vested interest in keeping it going. Don't forget, Wimbledon were allowed to do it and, while not in the same financial league as ManU, they didn't ditch Plough Lane and finally sever their ties with the community which they were supposed to represent until after they got to the FA Premier League.
