Slough v Bedfont

we have said it before but this really was the sort of win you need to win the league. we were in most part well below our best today against a Bedfont side that didnt look up to much at all.

slightly worrying that 2nd half we didnt stamp our authority considering we had just got back to 1-1 on half time. we eventually started to pile on the pressure late on when we finally realised that this was a game we really should be winning. 1st pen i couldnt see whether it was handball. 2nd pen the ref had no choice but to give thank god he had the balls to give it so quickly after giving a different and so so late in the game. kind of a shock considering he was poor in the most part. how on earth the keeper wasnt booked for blatant time wasting from start to finish (oh other than when we was winning ;) )

we won and we are top of the league say we are top of the league!!!

fair play to Burnell for taking the 2nd pen after missing. he looked so relieved to put it away

the team spirit seems to be superb. best we have had for years and years. lets hope this run continues and that we can kick up a gear when we need to when the going gets tough

Quality game and i was so into it, couldn't bare it towards the end, i think i had a mini heart attack when we got awarded the second penalty. But last 20mins we was all over them and they didn't do enough to really get a draw out of the game. well done slough, another 3 points.

Sounds like a repeat performance of our game with them. Especially the time wasting from their keeper. It's the most blatant gamesmanship I have ever witnessed at this level. Well done to Slough for taking the points, we'd have loved you to drop some, but Bedfont were so negative, IMO they deserve their lowly league position.

Manimal, couldn't make Slough game today so went along to see St.Ives beat Peacehaven in the FA Vase. The St.Ives fans speak very highly of St.Neots....

I bet they did :-) We play them soon in a county cup, should be good banter. That was a long trip for them!

Yet again, 3 points and still top of the league!

Yes we weren't our usual selves but it's games like today where the chips are down and you don't really get going but still win that will determine who wins this league!

Let's face it, we weren't great but did anyone actually feel like we would lose in the 2nd half?!?!? I didn't, I can't remember Bedfont forcing Warrington into anything extraordinary to keep us in the game!

MoM is tricky but I thought Woozley played well but so did NBH and Brown, one thing is for sure, our defence is consistent and when they are as good as what we have we will be in any game right until the final whistle barring a calamity!

Special mention today for Swift, who I thought grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and really pushed us forward at the end!

3spirit, we don't have the referee to thank really, he didn't really do us any favours up until the penalty decisions, and honestly they were 2 really blatant hand balls that any referee would have struggled not to give!

So, 19 down 23 to go, top of league and we are winning without getting out of 3rd gear which is a great sign!

COME ON YOU REBELS!

Sometimes the referee doesn't give them, though,Cookham Rebel !

In all honesty we should be tearing opposing bottom teams apart,we certainly have the footballers to do that. I thought in the first 25 mins of the first half we had enough opportunities to be 3-0 up. After that we just couldn't get out of 1st gear.

Bedfont under their new management could end up a mid-table team and I thought their number 7 looked particularly tricky.

However, the onus was on Slough and they failed to live up to the billing of league leaders.

Anyway a win is a win and I'm very glad we got the 3pts,as I'm sure the management and team are.

Thought Steve Bateman would have chosen to have bought two subs on together,as it was plain we needed something different.

Paul Coyne had to come off because of what looks like a bad injury[let's hope not].I would have taken Ollie Burgess off,as thought he had a very ineffectual game, the opposite of the week before.

I would have liked to see how Stuart Swift would have performed in the centre of midfield[left side] with Chris Herron outside on the wing.As I thought pre-season they looked to have an understanding and affinity for each others play.Add Danny Murphy at left back and I think you've got a very attack minded leftside.Still hopefully a mix for future games especially when the pitches/climate are better.

Got to be honest, I thought we should have bought on Abbey for Burnell long before those penalties were given. Second half was very poor, probably our worst showing in the league this season, but the important thing is we got the points in the end.

Well done to Danny for stepping up for that second penalty and scoring it after missing the first one. Thought our defence was reasonably good yesterday as I don't remember Warrington having to make too many saves, the problems seemed to come in midfield leading to very little attacking threat until the last 10mins or so.

I'm sure Bateman will look to make sure that it doesn't happen in the big games coming up over the next few weeks. COYR!

Agree with you Ian, they got their goal then they weren't up to much! We had a lot of chances to bury them, Adam Martin and Stuart Swift made a huge difference when they came on and I would expect them to start against Chalfont but I'm not Bateman and we can't complain at the moment!

We will not play like Brazil every week and baring in mind Bedfont beat St Neots last week, a win is a great result, ok the performance wasn't great but we need to put it into context, it's a win against a side who are in a false league position at the moment!

Like ARAAS, I was surprised Burnell was still on the pitch yesterday and thought Abbey should have been brought on a lot earlier but that is hindsight now!

Bring on Chalfont St Peter!

Moment of the match for me was Alex Browns goal. before the corner was taken he was being elbowed and shoved by the defender and keeper as well as recieving verbals from them but how did he react, said nothing and scored the goal. quality!

good teams win these games so lets hope we keep winning these types of games against teams who try to play anti-football.

MoM is a tough one but for me probably NBH.

That was somewhat sloppy in places, and it was certainly hard work, but yet again the team dug deep at the end, finished the strongest, and eventually applied the pressure that counted. I'll take that, even though it wasn't great to watch.

This is the longest unbeaten league run we have had in years, mostly being wins, so well done to the whole team. It will come to an end sometime, but hopefully not until January, as the next few matches include Bedworth and Beaconsfield which will be vital for our prospects of finishing top, which is certainly a strong possibility if we can win those matches. Lots of matches to play yet though, but this team seems to have the right spirit and belief for us to be contenders. Will we keep it up as the pitches get heavier?
