Slough v Bedfont

Would like to see Sam Bateman feature as by all accounts he has something to offer and a lot of people have kind words about him.

Quite a change from the last time a club official's son was available to the first team! Deano, Deano!

I think I'm one of the very few[including the then manager Graham Roberts] who thought Andrew Deaner wasn't as crap as many of the Slough supporters thought. Admittedly,he wasn't the most gifted or the most agile. Cumbersome and ungainly come to mind but he always tried his best, made a nuisance of himself to opposing bigger centre backs thus making space for others and could strike a ball ,as proved when he volleyed a shot from the halfway line which I think hit the crossbar.

I thought a lot of supporters gave him a lot of unfair criticism, just because he was in the team and he happened to be the Chairman's son.

I know he was not a 'Thommo' or a 'Westie' or even a Morrys Scott but he always played with his heart on his sleeve. What more can you ask of him, if he is not as technically gifted as other players.

I actually thought because of his stature and willingness in the tackle, better players could play off him. He was similar to how Simon Martin plays and many of the Slough fans didn't like him either.

The only thing Andy Deaner could be accused of was a lack of ability, not a lack of desire, effort or heart.

Trouble is there are plenty of people, fans etc who could play with effort and heart etc but without ability it counts for very little.

That is true but there are hundreds of average or below average players in non-league football. However,a good manager can utilise these players for the benefit of the team and the tactics.Graham Roberts did this with Andrew Deaner.

I know Martin Deaner did some dodgy dealings[allegedly!] but if it wasn't for Andrew playing football, he wouldn't have become involved with Slough Town and we fans probably wouldn't have had a club by now or all the years of memories played under his Chairmanship.

So I for one,am grateful for Andrew Deaner playing for the club!

I meant ability relative to the other players he played with as opposed to having no ability at all.

I didn't see penalty number one clearly but it looked a half decent shout. Those who saw it said it was clear. The second I did see and was definite - the player was lying on the floor with his arm outstretched and stopped the ball going towards goal. Burnell showed great courage to step up and take the second after horribly missing the first.

Very poor performance against a team that closed us down and were playing for a draw from the first minute.

We were very lacklustre today and have got the referee to thank for the three points.

After equalising late in the first half,I thought Slough would come out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing and take control of the game. Disappointingly they were strangely subdued and never really got in their stride. Bedfont belied their lowly status but if we had played with the footballing style we can,we could have beaten them a lot easier than winning by a fortunate penalty.

Very hard to pick a Slough player as man of the match.I thought Dave Woozley was about the best of a poor bunch.

We will have to be a lot better next week, if we are to get the win at Chalfont St Peter.

Any news on the new striker?

Yet again, 3 points and still top of the league!

Yes we weren't our usual selves but it's games like today where the chips are down and you don't really get going but still win that will determine who wins this league!

Let's face it, we weren't great but did anyone actually feel like we would lose in the 2nd half?!?!? I didn't, I can't remember Bedfont forcing Warrington into anything extraordinary to keep us in the game!

MoM is tricky but I thought Woozley played well but so did NBH and Brown, one thing is for sure, our defence is consistent and when they are as good as what we have we will be in any game right until the final whistle barring a calamity!

Special mention today for Swift, who I thought grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and really pushed us forward at the end!

3spirit, we don't have the referee to thank really, he didn't really do us any favours up until the penalty decisions, and honestly they were 2 really blatant hand balls that any referee would have struggled not to give!

So, 19 down 23 to go, top of league and we are winning without getting out of 3rd gear which is a great sign!

COME ON YOU REBELS!
