The Right Balance

On Saturday we had, in my opinion, a very good referee for our game against Sandhurst - and I will confirm that this was the view I expressed to people prior to half time with the score 0-0. His name was Mr P Conn for those interested.

After the game he came into the bar for a drink, had his young son with him plus both assistants, and we all had a good chat about the game and discussed some particularly notable moments.

One of the assistants was a 17 year old lad, who seemed to have a good game over the far side, with a more "mature" senior assistant who was equally efficient on the dug out side.

It struck me that this was the perfect balance for progression, as the youngster was protected from any potential "situations" by a referee in control of proceedings, whilst the older chap was given the senior role as would befit his status.

To be fair, the game was played in a pretty good spirit and there were not many contentious issues during the 90 minutes, but the referee still came out of it with top marks from my pointy of view.

The young lad was a very approachable person and it was good to see someone that young being able to feel very much part of the after match discussion and it was clear to see that he was quite pleased with his afternoons work.

I will pass this one over to the officials on the forum, but the mixture on this particular day worked in a very positive way and is surely the way forward.

Discuss!

Very glad to hear all this.

Typically, when appointments are made (I'm not speaking for the CCFL here, but just general practice), it is always a good idea that a more junior assistant be placed with an assistant with a bit more experience. It ensures a sense of balance and all the good things demonstrated by the original post.

On occasion, a referee may decide to allow the junior assistant to have the benches, so that they gain valuable experience. Naturally, the referee will show common sense here, and perhaps not do it for a local derby or when he/she is aware of history.

All part of the learning experience!

Very pleased to hear that the Officials had an excellent game.I think I am right in saying that young Dale, ran the line in the Fans Focus Charity game at Raynes Park, when Mewey was Ref.He had an excellent game that day also.I am glad that he is progressing well, for one so young, seemed a very level headed person, with good communitive skills.Hope he goes far in the game,WELL DONE DALE.

Is it 'cos you won Hammer ?

NG, you normally read the posts carefully before commenting, tut, tut !!!!!

As stated, prior to half time the opposition were giving a decision some stick and I commented to one of the supporters that to be honest the referee seemed to have got every decision pretty much correct and was dealing with everything superbly. It was 0-0 at the time and we had failed to make the Sandhurst keeper make a save, so the game was pretty much in the balance.

Posting good things only when you win isn't the way forward. We have had some good referees this season, but this particular team caught my eye as they worked very well together, which makes life easier for everyone.

i could imagine if someone was rascist then it would kick off with sk weve played em twice they were hard in the tackle but fine other than a couple of meaty ones i find it hard to believe they would say that there was racism if it didnt happen!?

I was with our reserves, but understand there were 3 SK players sent off and none from Westfield (we went down to 10 after an injury and all the subs already used).

I think 2 of the SK were sent after the whistle had gone.

Not 100% sure as wasn't there to witness it, but think the rasicm card was aimed at the officials rather than the Westfield players, as they weren't getting anything.

I'm sure NLN will clarify if any of this is correct/incorrect (pretty sure he has mentioned in all in the match report on our site).

Can confirm it was three sent off for Kilburn. As soon as they went down to 10 with about 10 minutes to go we took an injured player off that we had moved from centre half to up front (to keep him out of the way). So it was 10 on 10 for a few minutes. They then had another sent off with about 3 minutes left (that is when all the hoorar started) and then the keeper went 2 minutes later when he ran the length of the pitch de-gloving on the way to push his excess weight around. He was world class at being an idiot!

Can confirm that the racist card was played through out the second half as it was in the first match over there (where the female official was definitely reffing in fear). An accusation was made to a Westfield player, who looked stunned to say the least at what was being said to him (this was immediately after the player had been booked a second time - second red card) then they turned on the officials.
