If they do not owe anything then a club can put in a 7 day approach for said player and they will have to release them unless it contravenes any league rules re number of approaches from said club.

I understand that rule Krooner but what if a player/players want to play with his mates but it contravenes(big word) league rules? do the club keep an unhappy player by being awkward?

Clubs should just rise above things at the end of the day, clubs are always bigger than players.

This is exactly what is going on with one of my mates at the moment! He isnt going to play again for the club but they wont let him leave to play for another team. Its not even the manager as he has said for him to leave if he wants and understands. The chairman wont let him leave and is telling him to get a transfer! A load of ballacks if u ask me no player owes anything to anyone exactly like no club owes players anything

Yep james ward is the player. He clearly came to the club to play with his brother and mates and all have left and now they wont let him leave because they said he played in a friendly for another team. If he did is that breaking some sort of rule. I had no problems when i left with the club and was greatful my transfer went through smoothly as in the past have had many headaches with trying to transfer from a club.

Played in a friendly or not its most probably hearsay as we all know what non league football is like for rumours, its a shame clubs can hold players for ransom though, maybe Whitelaw can clear this issue up?

I had this situation last season and learnt a few lessons. If you owe no money or equipment the club in theory should de-register you but if they believe that you are trying to 'bend' league rules and join a club that has approached you or someone else at the same club they can hold your registration till the end of the season.

The 7 day approach system works well so its just easier for clubs and players if the club goes through the 7 day approach rather than de-registering.

You guys have this in your own hands to stop this crap once and for all. One of you (your club that is) put in a proposed rule change to be voted on at the AGM at the end of the season.

Quite simply the league compile a form which is a request by a player to be de-registered from his current club. He completes the form and sends to the league, they in turn send to the club and provided that the player owes no money and has no equipment which belongs to the club, they have to sign and return within 7 days and the player is then de-registered. If they wish to block this they have to supply 'evidential proof' (not hearsy) re funds/equipment outstanding or an illegal approach, simples...........job done, no more crap from little hitlers associated with certain clubs. illegal approaches, players playing friendlies or training with other clubs has always gone on and always will at our level especially now with facebook, twitter etc, lets drag the league (and the FA) into the 21st century !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't be done Spy.

Registration / Deregistration / Transfers are controlled by an FA Standard set of rules applicable to all Leagues up & down the country. Any changes to League rules have to be approved by the FA so even if a rogue League did try to bring something in like you're suggesting they would need FA approval to change the rule. We all know it won't happen.
