Goal of the Season

Nathan

Recommended Posts

I have been meaning to ask this for a few weeks now, but I thought I'd wait until next time we score a cracker so here goes.

I've been thinking why we shouldn't run a Goal of the Season competition like the one we ran for the 2004/05 season? Already I can think of several contenders:

Steve Sinclair - vs Chertsey Town (away, 20/08/2011)

Stuart Swift - vs Burnham (home, 23/08/2011)

Paul Coyne - vs Marlow (away, 29/08/2011)

Steve Sinclair - vs Banbury United (away, 17/09/2011)

Stuart Swift - vs Boreham Wood (home, 01/10/2011)

Paul Coyne - vs Leighton Town (away, 29/10/2011)

Steve Perkins - vs Ashford Town Mx (home, 26/11/2011)

A prize could be given out at the awards evening at the end of the season (provided the person who scores it is still with the club).

What does everybody else think?

Good idea, it’s been a fantastic season so far for quality goals.

I agree it has to be Coyne against Marlow so far, especially when you think about what a big deal they used to make about Pele nearly scoring from that sort of distance.

I loved Perko’s goal too though, I never knew he had that in his locker, it was unstoppable! The little shimmy around their defender before he unleashed it was great too. Terrific job on capturing both goals so well on camera Nathan.

Yep great work Nathan, couldn't make Saturday so it was great to see that thunderbolt and the rest of the highlights. Cracking goal. We should definitely run a goal of the season award - you just have to hope you don't do a Gary and miss an absolute screamer (mentioning no Michael Murphy v Gravesend goals) but given the ones you've already got that doesn't seem likely!

That goal shall forever be remembered as "The one that Gary missed" :)

Thanks for the feedback regarding the videos. Screamers like the one on Saturday or the one at Marlow come right out of the blue: as I recall I was tempted to stop filming on both occassions so we'll have to wait and see which ones I get and which ones I don't

Yeah Gary but that one was the goal of the season.

Good calls so far Nathan, both Perkins and Coyne's goals came after players broke down in the centre of the park and it would have been easy to stop - good luck for the rest of the season!

Just thought I'd bump this thread up, as Sonner's goal yesterday was one of the best worked I've seen for quite a while. Burgess chased a lost cause and delivered a peach of a cross for Sonner to head home for a well-taken goal, I think that's worthy of a place on the above list.

Bump.

Now that the seasons over, I wondered what everyone thought as to what the Goal of the Season should be? I would be inclined to put Sean Sonner's goal at St Neots, and possibly Ollie Burgess' goal at Ashford onto the list.
