Referees

Recommended Posts

I was at theFeltham v CB united last night, good result for CB,but Feltham were poor with i think 6 or 7 missing from the Guernsey game. Anyway the reason for the post is, i have to mention the excellent reffing by mr singh who i dont think issued 1 card. Great mannerism and excellent undertanding of the game all round top performance. PS can we have you every week.

We had Mr Singh twice last season and he was excellant. He was appraochable, spoke to the players like human beings, made the correct decisions the majority of the time and controlled the game throughout.

I do believe he used to referee at a higher level?

He was a Football League referee for a number of years. Obviously his experience at that level tells in his performances at this (CCL) level too.

However, Ace1, when you say he 'made the correct decisions the majority of the time', were those decisions you infer he made incorrectly the rest of the time incorrect in law or did you simply not agree with them?

Who knows? Age, health / medical, family commitments, work commitments, etc. Any one or a combination of those (or other) factors might have meant he could not give the large amount of time and commitment to refereeing at that level. What is for sure is that we as referees and clubs and players will benefit from his, and others such as David Crick's, experience.

You've made a good point in your comment 'easy to approach in the right manner'. Too often players will say that a referee is unapproachable or won't to talk to the players but they forget that if they were approached in the same way as they often do a referee (aggressively, collectively, etc) would you really expect that person to be responsive?

If you speak to someone in the manner in which you would like to be spoken then you ought to receive a response in a similar manner. Whether you agree with that response (opinion) is another matter! Equally, I'm not naive enough to think that all referees are saints in this respect either.
