We do indeed have a lot of female supporters and a lot of families following Guernsey games.. Roary the lion, after only 2 games, is now an established clown who will entertain everyone too.

We have a team of ballboys from a mini section from one of our Priaulx clubs at every home game too and I think a lot of these come back with parents for other games. Kids for a quid in the ground but no reductions for stand seats.

We have an excellent website and we also get well covered by all our local media.

Our programme editor's too modest...

Anyhow, how to boost crowds. Get them young!

Windsor has had a "kids for free" deal for the last couple of seasons, so long as there's a paying (or season ticket) adult with them. It works - really well.

The point is, the fathers watch, while the children - generally under 8 - just play and run around. And they gradually get used to coming, and they will grow up into supporters - I've seen it happen among the few children that came when they did have to pay half-price.

I've personally converted four dads to come along, each with at least one child: it costs them the £6 to get in (and one other dad has had season tickets the last 2 years, tho' not sure about this one), but they probably spend as much again on snacks, drinks etc for the children. There aren't many things that cheap for a family to do, and non-league football is actually fun for littles to watch - they're only a few feet from the players, who actually get to recognise the fans... Obviously they love the mascot, and well done Mr Dawson et al for the inspiration of Scotty the Stag. But also they can just run around about the ground, letting off steam, and no way can they even contemplate that at a league game (and at £20+ each you wouldn't let them!).

Open-air child care. you know it makes sense.

Other than that, use the LOCAL advantages! Point out how close you are to the ground, and when you are watching how close you are to the action; how friendly it all is, how the players are still normal people and not super-rich marketing brands... but don't forget to emphasise how it's a cheap time out in the fresh air, socialising with nice people (because you basically don't get thugs at non-league games) who you might not meet otherwise, how the children can see sport at a skillful level not just on TV but right up close... it almost sells itself.

And whenever someone says they support x-y-z Premier team - who they never see live, because it costs a fortune and anyway they're not *that* bothered - ask them to come and watch their local team, who play just down the road, and truly like having new fans. That's probably the most important factor of all... ask your friends along. if just half of them come once, maybe one in five of those will come again ... but do that each year for a decade and you add a lot to the crowd, plus you always have mates to watch the game with :D

One thing which you can't control much: it helps if your team wins when your friends come for their first game. As a Windsor fan I'd like to thank Banstead for their help in selling WFC as an exciting afternoon, and I do hope your goalie is feeling better about life now...
