I'm just saying try it, and with all the suspensions coming up, if Sinclair plays there and plays well along with the other players that will come in on the back of the suspensions and the team are still picking up results, there isno need to change it until someone isn't performing!

I'm not saying leave anyone out, it's not about that!

One of the drawbacks of playing a 3-5-2 is Sincs gets pushed back. He's not as good at the wing back role as Danny Murphy who defends and attacks equally well. It's a double edged sword. Do we revert back to 4-4-2 and go a little more atacking or do we continue to remain tight and sacrifice a bit of that Sincs flair. I'd go for the latter although I think playing him behind the front two (given suspensions next weekend) is a viable plan.

I agree with you Ian, we look a stronger side in a 3-5-2 and far to open in a 4-4-2! It's just an option with Sinclair... Burgess is right midfield player so it would be worth a punt giving Sinclair freedom to roam next Saturday especially with Coyne suspended!

Not strictly true,CR, at the Northwood game we were cut open by the opposition's attackers in the first half when Brown was playing in a 3-5-2.In the 2nd half when Brown went as an orthodox right back,we tightened up considerably.

I like your idea with Steve Sinclair. I think he would be lethal and hard to stop,if we played him in the 'hole' behind the front two. He certainly hasn't the fitness of Murphy to be a natural wing back. No doubting his qualities as a winger, though.

Disappointing Has to be considered two points lost not a point gained I agree with Cookham that they will probably make the play-offs they did last year when we won this fixture 5-1 Great that the defence is still playing well but once again we could/should have had 3 or 4 At least we now have two home games against much lower teams which we should be able to turn into 6 points .

Agree, definately 2 points lost.

We had the two best chances in the first half and couldn't put either one away. Second half again we had the best chances and couldn't score apart from the penalty. As regards the penalty, a bit harsh but someone said Burnell was fouled just before so perhaps justice was done.

I don't like to apportion blame but their goal came after Logie (who I don't think had a very good game today) mis-cued an attempted clearance.

Still, we are looking very tight at the back and picking up points without being at our best.

I think it's Coyne, Sonner and Martin suspended next week and I was told Swift is not available.

If Coyne,Sonner,Martin and Swift are out. For a bit of fun/indulgence, what team would each supporter [on forum] play for the Ashford game? I'm going off to think about it !

Reading Rebel or Cookham Rebel or anyone care to start the ball rolling............

Just our luck Charlie Mpi leaving at the wrong time, when for the Ashford game he would have been ideal to start upfront.

I like Cookham Rebel's idea of playing Steve Sinclair behind the front two but don't believe if we're missing Coyne,Sonner,Swift and Martin, that it's the right time to try it. Being that the three central defenders[brown,NBH,Woozley] are working fairly well, I wouldn't change it for Saturday's home game. However,I would bring back Simon Sweeney, if fit, to shore up the right hand side.

So my team for the 1st half would be :-

Warrington

Sweeney Brown NBH Woozley

Sinclair[orthodox winger/licensed to get forward] Bateman[the engine room!] Perkins[holding midfield] Murphy[to play as a wing back]

Burnell Logie[as a forward]

Subs: Dennison,Burgess,Abbey,Herron and Coyle if fit, if not then Eales

Bateman won't start either 3spirit! He seems to only be a number on the bench when we are short this season!

Again though, maybe that's his choice not the manager's.

Correct,Ian,that is my choice. I like Sam Bateman as he is young, fit and mobile and willing to do a lot of running.Steve Perkins is on his last legs and has been a fantastic Non-League player over the years but is carrying injuries,so isn't very mobile and so needs a partner in the centre midfield who can do a lot of the running for him. Steve offers the experience and know how to unlock the best pass and covering tackle plus with the team I thought apt, those two would be in front of a very sturdy defence.

As for Ben Abbey getting upset if you put Adam Logie upfront instead of him that's poppycock. As I think it should be straight toss up between Burnell and Abbey to start with. I only stated Burnell because he's younger and so,a bit more mobile. I think Adam Logie has a looked fatigued since his honeymoon. Still, what man wouldn't be !!! ha ha !

Seriously, Adam hasn't looked quite as sharp as he was. Wether that's because he's carrying an injury or his lack of game time recently, I don't know but what I do know is that he knows how to score a goal and can head a ball and can tackle,so I would have thought he could be a very good makeshift forward while Sean Sonner is suspended.

With the team I chose,it has adaptibilty to change to a 4-4-2 and Abbey,Herron and Byrne/Burgess could be used when players tire. I'm certainly not convinced Burnell and Abbey together will work,as both are natural goal poachers and neither are players who can jump at defenders for headers like Sean Sonner does.

fair enough i get your point 3spirit. if Abbey and Burnell start up front i would think we would definitely have to change the midfield structure slightly such as moving Sinclair in field though is Sweeney even fit to play rightback/wingback as not so sure he has always been on bench recently.

with so many unavailable its the case of making do with what you have and finding a way to get the win. luckily we have more viable options than we have had for some time to bring in

some good ideas in your guess at the formation 3spirit but with all due respect there is next to no chance Logie will get the nod over Abbey surely?? if that happened surely Abbey would walk away from the club and would be justified in doing so

Why would Ben Abbey be so incensed. It's a squad game and you have to make decisions on who is available to play.No one should be guaranteed a place. Many manager's have tried playing players in different positions from their normal ones.I always think that the best managers have an eye for this.

Going back in time, when we only had one substitute per game, players would have to adapt accordingly to how the game panned out.

There's no rule book in trying anything.Ben Abbey may make a brilliant right back or winger [when he was younger] but nobody knows because nobody tried it [as far as I know].

If a player is willing enough to give it his best effort, then sometimes they can be a novel answer to selection headache.Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but better to try than not bother at all because it doesn't fit the coaching manual or someone's closed mind.

I don't mean that Steve Perkins is about to snuff it! or that Ben Abbey is too old or that Adam Logie is so unfit he cannot play.

You misconstrue my words,Sue.

I'm not on here to launch personal attacks on anyone or to cause offence.

As I said before this is supposed to be a place for fans to talk about how they view the games of Slough Town FC and give their honest opinions. No more,no less.

Funny enough, the three players you mention that you PRESUME I'm having a go at, are three players that are among my favourites at the club and all three I have the utmost respect for.

So I suspect ,Sue,that you read too much in to what I'm saying about my footballing ideas/notions.

That unfortunately is the trouble with the written word.

How could I you tell that you were joking?

This is why it is good to use the emoticons [think that's what they're called] as they tend to show if you're being light hearted.

I must use them more, too. Come back,Sue.......all is forgiven!
