A great result yesterday and a great day for the club too.

First 45 there was only one team in it, an early strike from Coulter was a dream start and when McKenzie added a second there only looked to be one winner.

But how wrong you can be, and credit to Haringey & Waltham, what a response.

Soon they had it pegged back to 2-2, their football was of a high standard and but for 3 quality saves from Bewick in goal the outcome looked so different to that of the first half.

But changes made by Bicknell steadied the ship and 8 minutes from time McKenzie with his second scored what proved to be the winner.

A game that was well officiated was a pleasure for the 120 fans, there actually was more as the club got a lot of kids in and this made for an excellent atmosphere, but it was a great day on the whole for the club, for the Chairman and those who do so much behind the scenes too, hopefully some much needed reddies helped and another home draw against a club with a big fan base would be a real bonus.

Well done to Craig and the boys, but to Haringey & Waltham too for making it a cracking game to watch. :290:

Another Essex Senior League side at home would do such as Southend Manor, Witham Town or Bethnal Green United

  • 2 months later...

I see that had Ampthill Town beaten Oadby Town in the FA Vase Fourth Round and then managed to beat Staveley Miners Welfare in the Fifth Round they would have been rewarded with a home Quarter Final tie against St Ives Town or Gresley:

The draw for the Sixth Round of the FA Vase has been published by the Football Association today (Monday).

The draw has been made as normal, despite the postponement of all eight Fifth Round ties at the weekend due to the wintry weather.

The Sixth Round ties are due to be played on the weekend on March 3, 2012.

The draw is as follows...

1 Shortwood United or Ashington v Herne Bay or Larkhall Athletic

2 Staveley MW or Oadby Town v St Ives Town or Gresley

3 Tividale or Peterborough Northern Star v Dunston UTS or Bethnal Green United

4 Billingham Synthonia or Bournemouth v Whitley Bay or West Auckland Town

I'm pretty sure that the FA assign new number for each round, so what Rhodes says is probably not correct. Now how's that for a change?
