Colliers Wood United FC News

Recommended Posts

Colliers Wood United FC have been boosted by the news they are to receive “a substantial grant” to improve the playing surface at their Wibbandune ground. This will include stripping the current surface away, levelling and a new drainage system.

The work will start in early March and the club are arranging for all first, reserve and youth team home matches to be moved to a regular different venue. The relevant leagues have been informed and are supportive of the club’s proposals which will go a long way to retaining the club’s status.

The new surface will be ready for the start of the 2012/13 season.

The Wood have had serious drainage issues on their pitch over the years and the improvements are in line with football directives at this level, and beyond! Further details will be announced when we have them.

Wood have reversed their league matches with neighbours, Raynes Park Vale. The Wibbandune meeting is now on Wednesday 21st December at 7.30pm while the away fixture reverts to Easter Monday at Grand Drive at 11.30am.

The reserves Surrey Premier cup tie against Dorking Wanderers will be played at Wibbandune on Tuesday 29th November at 7.30pm; the first team are at Guildford City the following evening.

Wood have signed young midfielder, Matt Warren, from Kingstonian FC.

The Wood youth team have a double cup date at Westfield FC in the Surrey floodlit cup quarter final (Wood beat Cobham 5-2 on Thursday) and the Grant McLellan cup 2nd round.

Finally, Wood are hoping to announce a new club sponsor in the next few days.

when AFC Wimbledon played there in the SCC the shout "into the channels" meant something altogether different.

Morning all. Lovely day!
Up against Dorking today. Reckon this will be a decent game.
Our pitch so far this season has been in pretty good nick but, of course, the prolonged wet spells have yet to strike.
No midweek game for us so i thought I might pop along to Knaphill on Tuesday against Bookham.
Not definite as not sure what I have on in the evenings yet.
We are looking at developing a new website and programme for next season. I am currently seeking advertisers for the programme to pay for the new covers (I have some interest already) and I have already secured the new URL for the website. More on this in due course.
Have a great day all and good luck to our friends playing in the FA vase. All four could win today IMHO!

...and I have just been informed of a Wednesday AM pitch inspection re our league cup tie v Dorking.

Also, another CCL Premier club have offered the use of their ground to us from March if required.

Only 1 CCL club has yet to reply to our request.

I think all the others are OK with this.

At present(!!!) only 5 league games are scheduled from 1st March onwards.

Mole Valley SCR, Wembley, Badshot Lea, Windsor, Epsom & Ewell

At present(!!!) our reserves have just 4 league games remaining.

Camberley, East Grinstead Town, Crawley Down, Three Bridges.

We have our under 18's to consider as well as Balham Blazers FC U18's too.

That should be OK though.

Well done CC/CW

Another team at COBHAM how many teams play there now..,,,anyone know ?

Their pitch took a battering last season, will be even worse this season, but like all clubs, its down to revenue !
